https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rSDV11gytE Number Girl's School Girl Distortional Addict is a fun, fast paced, Japanese Alternative/Indie Rock romp. Clocking in at just over 35 minutes, the album makes it's stay short, but sweet. I will say the album suffers a little bit in terms of production, not that its really lo-fi, but it does sounds really heavy on the lower frequencies to me and it kind of muddles the sound for the worst. But if you can look past that, there are some serious gems in this album. If you enjoy alt/indie rock then I'd say at least give the first track a listen.
Tracks to look out for:
タッチ
透明少女
裸足の季節
As for today's album
Well...To be honest, I found it quite boring. Definitely not my kind of thing. There wasn't really a moment of this that I actually enjoyed, and throughout I was really just wishing that it was over.

I was reading through some news about The Avalanches and found this: >It turns out that early last year, the band quietly parted ways with founding member Darren Seltmann. News of Seltmann leaving came as early as February 2014 >The Sun reached out to a representative from the band’s label, Modular Records, who confirmed that The Avalanches is officially a duo. “Yep, Darren hasn’t been in the band for a while,” Fucking hell it took a year before people realized they lost a member. Heh. There are a couple good tracks on there, like the opener that keeps a good tension all along, keeps moving and stays dynamic the whole time without hammering everything up. The rest is at best uninteresting, the yellish singer gets annoying very quickly (and oddly enough, the growling is what works best on this whole album), most of the songs try a bit too hard to alternate between "zomg so beautiful T_T" and "ZOMG SO BRUTAL". And Autumn Monolog is the worst thing I've heard this week.
SniperJoe !!yxmJ0U5vgoV
>>57557825 >>57557843 According to the Wikipedia page they regained a member from their early career this year so there's some hope. But the list of collaboration has gotten quite long compared to their other stuff. We know for sure the Avalanches have collaborated with Danny Brown, Ariel Pink, and Jennifer Herrema.
Robbie said to a friend back in 2014 that the album "was gonna be done in three weeks", so I mean, surely it can't be THAT far off completion compared to the already 15 year long wait.

>Merzbow – Merzbox (CD 45): Red Magnesia Pink Sonic assault from 'Red Eyes', 'Magnesia Nova' and 'Pink Ream' sessions 8 tracks with lengths under 15 minutes! Goddamn! Note the boobies on the cover too. “Minus Zero” starts off with very harsh noise attacks. A lot of it sounds like ray gun (not the Ronald one) sound effects with additional warps thrown around. He mostly walks through the basic digital noise tricks here with a lot of effect pedals and harsh sounds. Nothing too remarkable other than the short length. “Etic” is very jittery with a lot of beeping bloops and swirling synths in the back. Gets really bubbly around 2 minute mark with very fast synth modulated synth sections. At 3:20 it moves to more single tones in addition to more digital effects. “Delta X” takes a lot of different static sources of high-pitched bird-call like tones. At 1:30 a more low-pitched series of drones show up as a countermeasure to the high-pitched orgy. It’s also a very short track on the disc. “Tremolo Man” starts off with glitchy patterns but proceeds into a more intense attack of digital noise. At the 3 minute mark it sounds like a microwave in distress. I think at around 4:30 Merzbow actually goes out of his comfort zone and returns to analog instrument rape. I am not sure if these second long bits are what I think they are, but it does remind me of his earlier period stuff. Other than that it is the usual gamma of his digital noise. He tries to abstain from going to a full on wall noise, mostly keeping himself busy with an array of switching patterns.
Dogwander !!DkmPyst8z1V
Quoted By:
>>57558384 “Euclids Pickel” goes into the wall noise. You can hear the eel- like noise static wriggling out but it is mostly concentrated on the single huge static block. 3 minutes in the track moves to these spit-like noise bursts. It gets on a straight harsh noise routine till the 7th minute, where it concentrates on these spits I was talking about earlier. After that the additional static joins in from the back and everything gets a more percussive orientation. There is a power drill at 9:24. I like the little bit of drones that sounded menacing at 11:24 but it literally lasted less than 30 seconds. That’s about it for this track.
“Chameleon Body” starts very silently with a no-input style sound before small shifts of noise get blasted into the sound chamber. The static generator starts and the soloing noise proceeds to wrap around it. At the 6 minute mark a lot of alterations in patterns start showing up with starts and stops of the harsh static. At the end of the track there is more bleepy high-pitched tones finishing the track off.
“Little Bang!” has this revolving “weuweuweuweuweu” noise bit that gets supported by distant ascending sirens and some pitch shifting. A lot of it sounds pretty cool compared to the regular stale Merzpasta. Ends with cool percussive bits. Good and short track.
“You-Bahn” is the closer and it is harsh noise with some interesting high-pitched tone arrangement. A lot of flanger in the intense bits as usual. Some little bits do sound cool here, especially stuff around the 3rd minute where the regular noise alternates with a ticking background sound. Finishes off with ascending drones and broken TV static sounds.
Poor disc but Little Bang was fun. I wish there was more variety, like sampling or some instrument thrown in.
4/10

The Constructus Corporation - The Ziggurat I just want to jump into the review and say that it's one of the most entertaining and interesting experiences presented in musical form: all of the passion put behind the various incarnations of the project (the album, book, comic, videos) is highly shocking, and the world building, the narration, the characters, the events are really well thought out. There is even a particular event that is narrated three times during the course of the album, in three different points of view, and each time we learn something more about it. So I'll just talk about the various iterations of The Ziggurat one at a time now: Disc one introduces the setting and characters and, at just the 9th song of the 23 there are only on this disc, finishes the story, leaving confusion and seeming uncompleted. The rest of the songs do not follow the storyline so the album has more time to relax, and spits out absolute bangers like Metatron One, Jellyfish, V. Disc two instead fills some of the gaps that the first one had, we discover more about Randomboy, Kidtronic, Anica and his pet Mr Rockadopolis. The songs are calmer and more eerie, there are more instrumentals. The tone is more melanchonic, almost nostalgic. The climax of the disc, A Thousand Miles, is a really nice piece of rap without instrumentals. Rick Flare just raps over nothing. That was definitely surprising. The last song is a 27 minute giant, and here we learn about the evil of the Constructus, and some characters barely mentioned before here are explained (Next). The book is divided in a fullfilling text part were you finally get it all, and almost every song is explained (without really spoonfeeding); and a comic part. Props to the artist because that's some of the finest art i've seen in a while. [1/2]

>>57562136 So, as an experience, if you are even barely interested, this project will suck you in. Sonically and musically though, i feel the album itself won't be replayed more than once in two, three months, apart from the catchier songs.
But the Ziggurat wouldn't have been the Ziggurat if it wasn't an album.
As an experience, i'd rate this a 9.3

Turns out Soft Pink Truth was a house cover album of black metal songs that I mostly hadn't heard, so I couldn't properly appreciate. I replaced it with Divide And Exit.
Pretty good spoken-word-punk album that takes cues from The Streets, it's as rowdy and outspoken as the mini-hype on /mu/ had me believe, as well as singles like Tied Up In Nottz. The MC just quickfire yells about things that annoy him, like daily routine, or a public toilet, or something on social media. It's not quite stream-of-consciousness but has the same effect, it can be super funny at times! The beats are Sex Pistol-y but a little boring, even for the bare bones aesthetic. Fans of The Fall should like this. I wonder where Jolly Fucker appears in their discography, maybe it's just a single, this album could do with those FRENCH FANCIES

Quick short reviews because I'm lazy and tired because of a whole week of ketchup. Machine Head was cool, not really original, but had a nice taste of songwriting and some nice musical variation. Innercity Griots was fun, but not the Organized Konfusion kinda Hip-Hop I really love, maybe a bit too dated for me. Hot Potato was an amazing track though. Jim O'Rourke was not bad but a bit boring, was kinda indifferent towards it. I guess it needs more listens but I'll probably won't give it that. Passepied was awful, was in my backlog for a full year and I know why. Because my weeb sorta like phase of liking everything Japanese girls make not named J-Pop is a bit over. Geeky electronics with a female chipmunk vocalist won't do the trick for me. Finally Judas Priest was very awesome, saw them last month and these guys can still play. I always needed to listen to 'the album with that eagle thingy' and that was a dealbreaker for me, I won't regret it one second because they have more to offer than almost every other Heavy Metal band ever. I mean, Heavy Metal is a really stale genre, but Judas Priest are good musicians who are way more than a one trick glam pony, they are far from that, they have a lot to offer through time and this shows it.

> Black Light District 'A Thousand Lights in a Darkened Room' (Eskaton, 1996) An alias used by Coil for their more drone-based work. There are some really beautiful organic sound pieces here, and there's plenty of variety between the tracks. "Red Skeletons" is all echoey and scratchy and sounds like rats scrounging around in the bottom of an empty silo. A series of overheard voices appear, like a lost surveillance tape, snatches of conversation, laughing and jeering. "Die Wölfe Kemmen Zurück" has a repetitive clunky sound like a heavy door latch fed through reverb, and swooshing drones like car tyres on a wet road. "Refusal to Leave the Land" is all watery with sploshy sounds before, halfway through, what sounds like a reversed accordion and softly sung vocals appear. "Green Water" has a tropical rainforest sound with strange birdcalls and warped percussion. "Blue Rats" is a more song-structured track, with minor key electronic rhythms and whispered vocals. Then there are more ambient pieces such as "Chalice" and "Cold Dream of an Earth Star" A beautiful album. 8.5/10

> Nurse With Wound 'Insect and Individual Silenced' (United Dairies, 1981) Apparently this is the NWW album that Steven Stapleton disowned for over twenty years and then rediscovered. "Alvin's Funeral (The Milk was Delivered in Black Bottles)" is a 27-minute mess. It starts coherently enough, with clanging percussion, cries and groans, bursts of white noise and crumbling piano clusters. But after around 7 minutes, large blocks of silence move in, and the sounds feel like they're being thrown into the mix at random, like Stapleton is just rummaging through a bag of loose ideas. There are some nice moments: around 15 minutes there is a woman singing sorrowfully against a clattering sound like an old wooden wind chime. "Absent Old Queen Underfoot" is 20 minutes of brushed drums panning back and forth while a creaking guitar slowly dissolves into a pool of its own filth. I found this track more engaging, but it overstayed its welcome by about ten minutes (although things do get quite interesting in the final 5 minutes). Finally, "Mutiles De Guerre" is 7 minutes of distorted cries and screams that loop and intersect against a backdrop of squeaking hinges and, in the final minute, a banjo playing Mozart. The first half of the album is a bit of a let down, especially after 'Merzbild Schwet', but things improved. 7/10

No, what I was trying to say is that I rarely enjoy indie music like And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out and either it is because it actually is extremely boring or maybe I am not just fit mentally to enjoy it. I wish it was the first but it seems more and more to be the last.

>Eyeliner - High Fashion Mood Music It's this record original? No, not that much, but that's not really a problem for me. See, Eyeliner has talent: almost every song here is very well written for synthpop standards, since they aren't totally formula-based, and they are varied while still maintaining a general cohesion. It's obvious that with his awesome and smooth production Eyeliner tried to create that high fashion vibe (that i like), and he totally succeeded in that. There are also a lot of remarkable moments, that add to the replayability of this album. I would love to hear some stuff by him that isn't bounded to the "rules" of synthpop, because Eyeliner has potential. A lot of potential.

Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See This was a shoegaze/dream pop record. Fade Into You is the jam of a lifetime, as is Five String Serenade and Into Dust. The rest was alright, some more shoegazy bits, and the end reminded me of Heroin by TVU. I liked the singer's voice, and the guitars had folky vibes that I had yet to see on a dream pop record. Liked it, I'm sure I'll listen to Fade Into You more than everything else on the record though.
Dogwander !!DkmPyst8z1V
>Merzbow – Merzbox (CD 46): Marfan Syndrome Featuring the talents of Reiko A 5 tracks, one of them 18 min long. “Marfan Syndrome For Blue” is 7 minutes long. It starts off with a powerful pulsating noise loop that has small bits of static thrown on top of it. Doesn’t necessarily go for the shock value but it kicks ass. I like the flangered shifts at the 3 minute mark. It sounds robotic. A lot of lower-end noise which is to my liking on this track. It very neatly transitions into the next track. “Oldenbergs Soft Gun” starts of with waves of static and some looping. 2 minutes in it has these spray sounds that remind me of factories. Those sounds get more and more presence on the track with almost machinery like intonations. At around 5:30 it turns into an awesome “Storage” like track with a lot of percussive grooves that do sound like they come from the earlier Merzbow era. There is a weird glitched guitar at 6:20 too. At 8:20 Merzbow plugs in his telephone and starts dialing numbers. While doing that, there is a lot of rumbling and some very short-lived noise bursts. The phone dial tones quickly disintegrate into small shots of glitch. At the 15 minute mark it gets very percussive with little to none noise static. The piece closes with bursts of noise and what sounds like distorted groans.
Dogwander !!DkmPyst8z1V
>>57583534 “Spider Nest Castle Pt.1” (no part 2 btw) starts with a LOT of noise static generators over 1 single droning static source. Shit is bonkers. Very sharp tones here and there. At 2:40 we get more of the distorted painful shrieks. Around the same time I think I heard a small buried rock song with the drum/bass section being the most clear. The section makes a return after numerous noise flanger attacks at 7:40. At 10 minute mark it gets really funny because the loop of the rock tune keeps playing but it is degraded to nothing with all the noise blasts over it. Closer to the 11 minute it all turns towards static and this “woo” sound from a horn-like source in the back. That’s the end of this one.
“Un Br che” is somewhat similar to the opener from the sound structure since it is a lower-range loop drone in the back supported by harsh noise spikes here and there. The soloing noise is not as abrasive though, very toned down. I think Reiko A makes an appearance here with amazing howls that are circling around the noise sections. It somewhat reminds me of a Haino/Pharmakon merge. At 3:25 the vocals merge with electronics in a very orgasmic way. I absolutely love it. Seriously Merz. You really need some more “alive” component to your digital harsh noise stuff all the time, just like this. It completely revives the piece. 6 minutes in the noise overpowers the voice but the vocal presence remains noticeable in some hollow void between the static wires. At 9:30 there is a little break from all the harshness with some bone-shivering bleeps and vocal sections. Amazing track. Please check it out.
https://youtu.be/hSPtwtCJZm0?t=38m12s “Yosef Voice” is a 2 minute closer of distorted vocals and more classical digital Merzbow harshness with flanger and shit. It’s only 2 minutes long so no complaints really.
Most of the noise was good but the Un Br che track is amazing. So I’ll add a plus just for that.
7+/10

>Man's Gin - Rebellion Hymns This album looks to be a continuation of the dark and imposing folk rock of Smiling Dogs, the previous album from Man's Gin. Smiling Dogs was a crushing collection of creaking wooden destruction, a mind out to do anything. On Rebellion Hymns, however, it looks like Wunder has allowed a bit too much metal to seep in from his other band, Cobalt, a black metal outfit. The instrumentation no longer groans with doom and tension that gave Smiling Dogs its appeal; it has a much cleaner sound, with the warped pianos sounding almost sunshiney, and the lyrics along with vocal style just lacking true impact. The slow tempos, the dramatic downward strums of the guitar, the flickers of formidable end cadences - they're all there on this album, but without the juice or proper soul and meaning, it only becomes a weak call back to the glory of past achievements, never reaching it in the end. That being said, I DO recommend (although I have already) that everyone checks out Smiling Dogs, the first album, it's outstanding. This one you can ignore.>Score 3.5 - 4/10

Four Tet - Rounds I am a complete sucker for electronic music done well. I really am. And while listening to this the time flew so fast and gave me a real positive impression. Almost every song has its good moments, and it's solid. Samples are great, and the folky vibe is another sweet spot of mine. It's feely, happy, sad, worried. It reminded me of the taste of a walnut or the trees in autumn. Definetly an album I'll relisten in my soft bed in rainy days later this year. 8.3 Oh, and I have the last review coming right after!

toe - the book about my idle plot on a vague anxiety Sometimes, there's somebody that just has to make a simple album. No pointless experimenting, no tryhard tracks, no overdoing. That somebody, in this case, is toe. The album could seem bare and skeletal if it would be described to someone. It's math rock, there's good drums, there's guitars. It's sad and tiredsome, but it lets you know that without voice or lyrics. And that's it. But, when you actually listen to it, it's fullfilling and just well crafted, something done completely right. It's cute, it's small, it feels good. I can see the potential in this. 7.5 AND, I FINISHED MY FIRST CHART! It was absolutely nice, entertaining and I got some fresh hot gems out of this. Well, it's definitely one of the most varied vaporwave records i've ever listened: the first songs are very "chopped and screwed-ish", then we have some almost ambient jams and the last three songs are eccojams.
The first songs (the most infamous ones) have really catchy 80s' samples, and they are edited in a interesting way, so i was pretty entertained by those tracks.
I was surprised by the editing of the ambient songs: it was really original, so i liked those tracks too.
But when i finished the album, i kinda understood why people say that this album is lazy: because the last three songs really are extremely lazy, and could've been easily removed from the album.
Also, because of all this variety, i didn't really feel nor find any type of atmosphere. If Vektroid tried to evoke something with this, than she failed.
Also i'm going on vacation too, so i won't be posting constantly, but i will update my RYM with all thoughts on the albums in the future

>>57601107 >grow up and get clean why don't you grow up and use a trip or maybe stop associating age with something age has absolutely nothing to do with. music plays on reward systems meng, same as video games, same as drugs. it's all escapism, don't be a cocksucker. but i'll listen to whatever that is i guess.
>>57601194 i really thought you were trolling with passenger of shit but alright i'll check it
good friend rodriguez !wKFr4GGZxY
>>57602332 boggle it's getting to the point where i might just have to filter you, you sassy kitty.
give me a not shit album to convince me otherwise.
and yeah passenger of shit is great. they sort of do the death grips thing where they surround themselves in edge so you'll check them out ironically and find out they're actually pretty decent.
rockadopolis !3QKZ5IeWhY

>>57602405 too bad die antwoord are terrible and why do you guyise always assume drugs = alcohol anyways?
>>57602387 filtering posts is literally the most faggot thing you can do. this is supposed to be a community, and if i rub you the wrong way just take what i say lightly and remember that i'm not being serious. i rarely am. i mean we're on 4chan, are you not used to people throwing around words like faggot and cocksucker? what's the big fucking deal you thin-skinned yellow-belly? so what album should decide my fate then, hm i'm gonna make it Soil and PIMP - Pimp Master . k? k
>>57602437 it's an automatic cleaning toilet that was shit on the rim and you don't lurk enough cause it's old as dirt
so this passenger of shit album isn't hip hop at all and wattayaknow i'm not surprised. seriously, do you guyise listen to hip hop at all? it just seems vastly overlooked in these threads and it worries me. so much focus on noise and folk but where's the love for fresh beats? i mean at least i see metal pop up every now and again, but still. this album's good, don't get me wrong, i'm enjoying it, but it's not really what i had in mind.

Is it required to be a tripfag to post in this thread or what
good friend rodriguez !wKFr4GGZxY
>>57602764 no, but it helps keep discussions from becoming horribly confused. this is at the cost of occasional drama (see above).

>>57602611 oh that's what it was, i remember now, i asked for hip hop albums and you told me, and i quote
>if you want to feel angry just listen to die antwoord til you pass out drunk and lonely which is first of all, bad music, second of all, not really hip hop, probably just what you could think of off the top of your head because you don't know much about the genre (which is strange because you know that's the purpose of this thread is to find and discuss new music and yet every post about hip hop i've made gets ignored and i've never seen anyone else really talk about it since i've been here, all i'm sayin), and lastly, it's a bit fucking insulting. drunk and lonely? i never mentioned getting drunk and you're implying i don't have anyone in my life too. i never said shit to you rocky, i don't know what your deal is or why you feel so attacked, but you insulted me, not the other way around.
>>57602764 no, and you did the trip wrong anyways. the format is in the FAQ. it's not necessary at all but if you're gonna stick around it's nice so we know like what to call your chart and can identify what music you commonly like, what you've already heard, etc
>>57602824 never did i once insult anyone directly i just called daily in general white-bread and that all of your previous suggestions today (it was only like four albums) were bad. stop being so sensitive dog.

>>57602885 i like it. i dunno if i'd listen to it too many times again, but it has some cool noises. that weird ass bus experiment someone suggested had some cool noises too but not really any structure so i got bored with it. also this fucking album has like six untitled tracks, wtf is up with that? i hate when bands have several tracks of the same name like WHY just WHY

> Nurse With Wound 'Homotopy to Marie' (United Dairies, 1982) Apparently Stapleton considers this the first true NWW album, having carefully honed it himself over the course of a year. Even though it is at times frantic and chaotic, it has a more singular feel than his previous works. "I Cannot Feel You as the Dogs Are Laughing and I Am Blind" starts with a clattering sound like someone riffling through a cutlery drawer, before a creaking gurgle from the back of the throat and, halfway through, a mesh of pained singing/weeping/blowing sounds. Towards the end there is a wonderful burst of Balinese monkey chants. "Homotopy to Marie" is a beautiful 16-minute collage of gongs and occasional snippets from what sounds like an English children's TV show about a haunted hospital, with a chorus of squeaking hinges towards the end. "Astral Dustbin Dirge" is a quiet piece featuring hollow tubular sounds interspersed with banks of silence and splintered voices and a frantic cut-up section towards the end. "The Schmurz (Unsullied by Suckling)" is the longest piece (25 minutes) and it traverses a lot of territory: muted marching chants; operatic voices buried deep under sheets of abrasive noise; fast-speaking Italian women; a duet of blunted piano and birdcalls; tangled atonal strings and much more. This album really highlights Stapleton's strength as a collector, curator and assembler of sounds. 8.5/10
