Because what is the alternative? Where is there that is any better? I've been an active member of other music forums over the years and they are fucking wretched. So is /mu/, but the difference is that everyone on the other boards has a name, a post count, a join date and a certain amount of respect just for being there long enough or posting long enough and it's this big circlejerk of who the fucking coolest poster is.

Similar shit goes on here with the pleb/patrician nonsense but who gives a fuck, your names are all Anonymous. This is also a huge fault and one of the reasons why this board is shit, but the pretentiousness and elitism of the alternatives is off the fucking charts in a way where you know those assholes actually mean what they say instead of it being a 50/50 chance at bait like it is here. At least here there is a good discussion like once a week and something to laugh at every now and then.

If you truly like obscure music, you just have to learn to enjoy discussing music you don't actually like. It sucks I know, but I only know 1 person who I can truly talk about music with so I just vent it all to him, I'm sure he does the same to me since we're both into really obscure shit. As far as other people go, I just kind of go a long the discussion of whatever they're talking about even though I don't like it, I usually know enough/am familiar with stuff their talking about so I contribute, and they never care even if I don't like it. I've told nirvana fans I've know IRL that I personally hate kurt, they don't even care. People are a lot more civil about music discussion irl.

/mu/ is elitist like every other music forum, but half is just bullshit and the half that's serious - who cares? You say you like a band/album or call out some band or album for being sub-par on a forum where people have usernames and suddenly you are gangraped by shitheads and never welcomed back. Same thing happens here, except you can come back any time you want because you aren't ostracized because there can't really be that much of a dick-measuring competition when everyone's Anonymous, no matter how hard people try. Not having identities tied to posts makes for absurd amounts of shitposting but also allows for good discussion now and then which is uncommon.

It feels fucking weird defending /mu/ in any context. I feel unclean.
