speaking as someone from Perth (which apparently is the second best music scene in the country, as pathetic as that is), most bands are afraid of giving a shit about the music they make since it'll open them up to criticism if they do something heartfelt. I guess you could pin that on Australian culture if you wanted
most bands bury everything under layers of ironic detachment and shitty lo fi production. I honestly don't thin many people here actually try that hard to write music
there's a few melbourne bands I think are okay, so things might be better over there. I'm not a king gizzard fan though, liked 12 bar blues, the microtonal album and murder of the universe but the rest is shit>>78673820
yeah triple j is fucking shit, that's another part of it. they rarely play anything worthwhile
unearthed was a good idea but it they've completely fucking mangled it.
there needed to be something that inherited the mantle of countdown for Australia to keep on producing internationally relevant music (whether you liked what was on countdown or not) but triple j didn't step up there
