well, /daily/ here are my final poorly written reviews before I leave for Japan tomorrow I'm glad I finished my backlog chart before the trip Bill Evans - You Must Believe in Spring Evans once again shows his skill at playing the piano and producing some of the coolest jazz around. Pretty standard album but very good. Happy Jez face/10. Mamoru Fujieda - Patterns of Plants I liked this a lot. The way it was made is pretty interesting and produced some good stuff. It certainly reminds me of a Japanese garden. Happy Jez face/10. George Coleman - Bongo Joe Fun and weird album. The Coleman's vocals, lyrics and homemade drums combined resulted in some interesting music. Happy Jez face/10. Curse of the Golden Vampire - Mass Destruction I want to break shit because of this album. Fun stuff. Happy Jez face/10. Sondre Lerche - Faces Down This was pretty good. Much better than I expected desu. Neat little pop melodies. Happy Jez face/10. Lee Moses - Time and Place Sweet stuff. Great vocals, good riffs and good basslines. Liked it. Happy Jez face/10. The Brand New Heavies - s/t Neat groovy tunes. Nothing too memorable but good stuff. Happy Jez face/10.

>Amnesia Scanner - Angels Rig Hook A 14-minute subway ride through Manhattan in a dark, dystopian future. Emotionlessly uttered, sterilised spoken word sections set the mood, with oppressive, booming beats kicking in every now and then, then disappearing as quickly as they came. Even though this EP does an excellent job of transporting the listener to dark alleyways and crowded clubs, the real catch here is the phenomenal soundcraft and attention to detail. These beats sound smoother than anything I've ever heard, the drums are punchy and crystal clear, the basses are absolutely filthy, the synthesizers sound both strangely organic and sterile. All of the musical ideas presented here would make for killer standalone tracks, had they been expanded upon. Sadly, none of them truly live up to their full potential as their brevity doesn't quite allow them to lull you into a trance, but there's lots of good shit to be found here. The lyricism (if you can call it that) is a bit inconsistent; most of it is very blunt, some of it to the point where they beat you over the head with it. As a whole though, the picture painted is vivid, the music is fantastic and I need to hear more from these guys. 8/10-ish.

>The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico I put this off for a long time, but when you forget its massive reputation and let it do what it wants to do it's a lot less scary. Hearing Sunday Morning on a sunday morning was nice. I think this could have been as good or better than WLWH, but I'm not a fan of the tracks that mainly feature Nico. Still, it has some of the best tracks from either album (I'm Waiting for the Man, Heroin, Black Angel's Death Song, etc.)
>The Velvet Underground - White Light / White Heat The budget gets lowered, and everything else gets turned up to match it. I LOVE the literal storytelling on The Gift, and while Sister Ray is great, I think I Heard Her Call My Name gets me almost as much without taking nearly as long, and without all the dumb stuff about ding-dongs.
