Why do you hate Tame Impala?

>> No.55727905

Their sound is completely unexciting and plain bland when you're familiar with all the bands they're derivative of, like all psych rock from the 1960s to the 1990s

>> No.55727908

>>55727873
Lonerism>Innerspeaker

>> No.55727920

the first 2 albums we're good but I'm not digging the songs off the new album so far

why are you trying so hard? They just make music bro.

I'd say I'm pretty familiar with that style, but I still disagree.

>> No.55727940

>>55727923
I would understand if they recombined it in an interesting way but they literally just sound like a watered down version of their influences.

There's nothing wrong with imitating earlier styles.
There has been a consistent, large movement of Classical music based around it.

>> No.55728005

>>55727873
They're okay. But I feel like they're a singles band. Lonerism especially is not a very good album as a whole but the hits are okay.

>> No.55728021

>>55728005
Nothing wrong with that either.

Sure but you still have to be good at it.

>> No.55728039

>>55728024
Good thing they are, and offer exceptionally exciting and dramatic songs like Alter Ego.

>> No.55728049

I used to like them when they were fist starting out, but now that everyone loves to hype them up like they are the best, I'm not that into them. It looks like they are going into that generic Arctic Monkeys route.

This is what I can't understand.

Why are all you autists so bent against Impala for being generic, when Kevin Parker outright wears his influences on his sleeves and makes no claim to be "changing the game". Are you all the same people that hate every song in 4/4? It's just catchy, well-mixed psych rock man, why get so upset just because the guy is making generic music? It's still good

>> No.55728110

because my country has spent half a decade shoving them down my throat
alter ego is still a good track though and really their only one that's ever impressed me

>> No.55728122

>>55728059
>hard-nosed imitation
yeah like Brahms and Stravinsky and Bartok
hard nosed imitation all right
>didn't kill classical music
classical music isn't dead.
you would know this if you were following the thousands of amazing composers working today.
either that or your idiotic snobbery thinks that Lang, Wolfe, Chin, Adams, among others are not equal to the past greats.

in short: you know nothing of what you are talking about

>> No.55728131

I like everything they've made so far (including EPs, those especially) except for Currents songs. Those are watered down and boring as hell.

>> No.55728151

I don't, but I do think Innerspeaker is bland.

or maybe we just accept good music regardless of what time it came from or what style it is...?

>> No.55728231

>>55728100
what gives you the impression that I am upset
it is decent psych rock, it just bores me completely, I'd never get the drive to put on a tame impala album

>>55728122
>yeah like Brahms and Stravinsky and Bartok
Brahms died in the 1890s, Stravinsky in the early 70s, but really did his important work in the 10s, Bartok died in 40s, you know, the period when classical music dramatically dropped in relevance

>you would know this if you were following the thousands of amazing composers working today.
you mean the thousands of dry academics iterating on well established concepts? so exciting, even avant-garde pop musicians are barely interested beyond minimalism

if you knew what you were talking about you would readily acknowledge the stark contrast between the classical music before and after the second world war

>> No.55728350

i honestly didnt hate them until they started gaining hype. had to jump that ship. theyre shit.

>you mean the thousands of dry academics iterating on well established concepts?
You have never heard of Wolfe or Lang, evidently.
Fucking moron.
>if you knew what you were talking about you would readily acknowledge the stark contrast between the classical music before and after the second world war
I'm well aware of the difference but it's not a worse difference. It's like saying "You would notice the difference before and after the classical era."

>> No.55728782

literally cuck: the board

>> No.55728834

The influences that people keep accusing them off ripping off were more influential than "good". Bands of this era generally introduced psych elements into their sound, but didn't do much with them.
And then Kevin Parker comes along and incorporates these elements into actual songs that are accessible but still contain enough of a "production fuckery" component to please psych fans.

I really don't see what the argument is here.

>> No.55728980

There not interesting to me. Even 60's psych is more inventive.

But I think Lonerisms is a decent album with amazing production.

>> No.55729258

>>55728712
>You have never heard of Wolfe or Lang, evidently.
I have though, they were born in the 50s, founded their organization in the 80s and they are maybe no longer strictly "minimalists", but are really just iterating on those ideas, especially Lang
>Fucking moron.
>name calling
>muh sophisticated classical scholar

>I'm well aware of the difference but it's not a worse difference. It's like saying "You would notice the difference before and after the classical era."
the point wasn't that there is a difference, it's the kind of difference

They're alright but his vocals are so uncharismatic and bland they put me to sleep

I don't hate the band though, they're neat I guess
