I've heard of an album called Loveless by the band My Bloody Valentine, it's apparently popular in the genre

>> No.55727828

why would you want to start getting into the most boring, derivative and unnerving genre there is?

whirr - distressor
lsd and the search for god - s/t
tokyo shoegazer - crystallize
sweet trip - you will never know why

somebody post a piece that will convince me that this is not the only worthwhile thing in the properly 'shoegazing' genre (obviously plenty of other music uses layered, textured noise walls)

ib4 ride and slowdive

>> No.55727985

I like lovesliecrushing if you're coming into shoegaze from a harsh noise or drone background. Kinda sounds like Caldera Lakes but with structure.

Every self-respecting shoegaze fan absolutely needs to listen to this

>> No.55728245

don't devalue this album by associating it with shoegazing

>> No.55728500

Essentials are mbv - loveless, ride - nowhere and slowdive - souvlaki. I found nowhere rather inaccessible at first so give that one some time. Chapterhouse - whirlpool is also a good starter, was one of my first favs.

the band, not the album.

straight up shoegaze like loveless doesn't have much depth

i'm pretty fond of twee/shoegaze blend

check out these bands/albums

isn't anything by my bloody valentine (pre-reverb)

anything by lush

psychocandy by jesus and the mary chain

so tonight i see by mazzy star (this is kinda country-ish but its good)

yuck self-titled (not really shoegaze but you'll enjoy it)

telescopes, microphones, primal scream

everyone has already suggested all the good shoegaze albums

loveless, souvlaki, tokyo shoegazer, lsd and the, whirr, ride, chapterhouse,

Still waiting for an explanation of your reasoning

>> No.55730283

yeah just listen to MBV and that'll basically give you everything that is the shoegaze experience. The genre is nearly pointless and extremely stagnant but I won't deny that I like the sound, and I listen to more than MBV but it's all basically the same. So if you want that wall of sound, check out MBV and you won't need to listen to another shoegaze album again

why listen to a carboncopy of mbv when i can listen to the original?

>> No.55730324

>>55730283
oh and like the fusion genres are nice. I like it mixed with black metal, postrock, and dream pop. I find borrowing shoegaze elements creates a much more compelling sound than just shoegaze

Same, I did this on an album I just finished.

Because MBV could have made all of these songs but didn't?
