>Who is James Ferraro?
James Ferraro is one half of The Skaters, one half of Lamborghini Crystal.
His solo work spans a vast range of thematic and musical motifs and early in his career was often quite DIY in aesthetic: it was lo-fi and issued in incredibly small quantities on his own labels on cheap formats like cassette and CD-R.
The music itself generally made some commentary on contemporary society; a particular emphasis was placed on recontextualizing the more garish aspects of the 90s, as well as relating art to supercorporations and mass media.
His more recent work shares similar themes, but releases are less frequent and are more hi-fi in sound.

Are you liking the new direction?
New LP when?

I hate how these threads always turn into braindead spoonfeeding, half of the fun with Ferraro is bit by bit discovering his massive body of work by yourself.

what do you guys think of Live at Slimer Beach? its actually one of my favourite ferraro releases. it's dedicated to richard ramirez and described as a soundtrack to the nightstalker murders and iirc sounds like a cross between night dolls and the noisy ambient stuff that he used to do. it's got a real seedy vibe about it, using the same kind of tropes as the rest of his music from that period but it feels almost as if it's to mask the fact that the subject matter at hand

also don't you think the Body Fusion albums are kind of outliers in his discography when it comes to the subject matter?

these are probably the best albums of the 'new period'. i wasn't too big on Cold or Sushi but i loved NYC Hell

>>55728074
the older stuff'd require a lot more listening to really work out which was the best. there's probably releases of his that are barely heard

>> No.55728147

whats widely accepted as his best album?

>> No.55728172

>>55728147
Far Side Virtual or NYC Hell

>> No.55728188

>>55728147
everything's he's done is pretty different. his older music is drone/ambient stuff for the most part, i'd recommend Marble Surf as the entry point for that. everyone loved Far Side Virtual, which is all MIDI instruments; my personal favourite is NYC Hell 3:00AM, which is kind of really dark alternative R&B

i can't believe how popular his shitty music is. this guy would not have a career if people weren't on drugs.
