So I've been listening to a lot of grime again recently, from both albums, radio sets, LOTM clashes, etc, and I've been enjoying it.

However, does it ever change?

Do any grime MCs actually spit about anything other than knives, guns, being on road, being with mandem, getting with pengtings, etc? Do the instrumentals and flows ever change?

Like I'm not trying to lewronggeneration it up here, I like grime, but it doesn't seem like there's any way to switch it up. Are there any MCs who actually get deep about anything lyrically? Are there any grime instrumentals that aren't 140bpm Eskibeats? Are there any other flows other than the ones all the big MCs use?

Who do I need to listen to? Grime is great, and it's great that its finally getting big, but if it ever wants to be taken as seriously as hip-hop, its gotta switch it up a bit.

Is grime that straightforward of a genre? Surely there's a way to switch it up without stepping out of the boundaries.

Try Dr Syntax - Self Taught, it fits your scenario perfectly

Just because he's white doesnt make him deep

Grime is poser-core. Don't even bother listening to it.
