I'm trying to understand this album.

People say that it's good because "every performer is playing their own song" but except for a few like Dali's Car and Hair Pie 2, the parts are all really simple and sound amateurish.

Can I have tips for learning to love Captain Beefheart?

Tips of loving Beefheart? Dude, you either love it or hate it. Some people take music in a different way and not trying to pick a part what you can get out of it. For me, I thought it was very creative and entertaining. It all depends on how you consume music in general. You shouldn't ask people how to ingest the music you're interested in. It's your taste. All I can say is listen to it for what it is and don't be so judgemental. Just vibe out.

Try listening harder and more carefully. The best tracks are:

Moonlight on Vermont
Frownland
Pachuco Cadaver

concentrate on melodies (smaller ones too)

concentrate on one of the most amazing drumming in the history of music

don't worry, you'll "get" it. it's not so hard people make it to be. it's actually like a big genius joke which is meant to make you smile. read some stories about the making of the album. read other people's experiences with it.

maybe someday i'll make an essay about how much i love this album and post it here. i'm going to bed now.
