No, although they are similar in that they are compositionally simple records that somehow manage to transcend that and become something incredible in their simplicity.

ITAOTS gained its status through other shit too - Jeff's breakdown, the fucking weird lyrics, the cover, the obscurity of it etc. Sufjan was already massive when C&L came out.

It's a great album but I have to say no just because illinoise and michigan are both better albums. The two albums by sufjan that will be talked about a lot in the future are illinoise because it's his best work and age of adz because it's his most interesting and experimental work.
