I'm pretty late to the clipping party. What did mu/ think of this album again?
>>55623616this album is the definition of wasted potential
good nothing amazing though
a lot of people liked it but i felt some of the tracks went too far with the pop side of things (i have no love for the club song thing). i thought midcity was better.
I was really on the fence about it. I liked tracks like body and blood but hated that one song about some bar. But /mu/ told me it was shit so I don't like any of it anymore
>>55623634bother to expand?
>>55623634I feel this way about Clipping in general. They and their tracks just seem off-the-mark and unexciting most of the time. I have consistent hope for them (I still do) and they shine through sometimes, but never for a whole album.
i enjoyed it a good bit. /mu/ doesnt like it anymore though, but its a fun album that i always enjoy listening to. and in my books, thats the definition of a good album :^)
Midcity is better, it was more noisy. CLPPNG seemed like it was trying to be more mainstream hiphop, aka shit. I'm positive they have the potential to make a 10/10 genre-defining album, but they just haven't done it yet.
>>55623616Some 10/10 tracks (Work Work, Summertime, Get Up, Inside Out)Some very mediocre tracks (Taking Off, Ends)Some absolute dog shit, like what the fuck (Tonight, Williams Mix)
IT'S THE LAST SONG OF THE NIGHT
The two Intro songs are the greatest rap songs of the last four years, prove me wrong.
>>55623675the MC clearly has a lot of talent and personalitythe instrumentals are great at pointsbut a handful of tracks on this thing are as shitty as the good tracks are goodway too inconsistent to be above decent
Its pretty good
This album would be awesome but Tonight really brings it down. Still a good album though. Story 2, Taking Off and Ends are amazing
when you look at it, tonight is actually pretty good for being one of those notoriously hated tracks
>>55623912yeah i feel like people are kind of over-reacting
Tracks like Body and blood make me believe there's something more to clipping. That album was great, but not their final form.
>>55623912>>55623928the verses are great but goddamn that chorus is unbearable
>>55623666>on the fence
>>55624009honestly i think the chorus would have been so much more tolerable without the autotune. daveed has showed us, and im sure he knows his voice is perfectly fine, there was no need for the autotune
>>55624040its literally bad on purpose i think
>>55624064Most likely. They also say that they don't have a problem with popular music. So who knows.
>>55624064thats an interesting theory but it could make senseif noise is hard for normies to listen to, then an autotune-soaked pop song is hard for people who like noise to listen toits abrasive to people who like abrasive music
>>55624163not event rying to shitpost but for real damn...
>>55624064it is, but jesusif you're gonna be ironic, do it like danny brown does on Radio Songit's "bad" on purpose but it's actually good
This and Midcoty showed they have amazing potential. I thought it was really good, but they can do better. It's a very accessible noise hip-hop album (I actually used Midcity to ease myself into Death Grips)
>>55624163fuck thats it isnt it?
>>55623699:)
>>55623616The album is great, but i think Tonig-DONT FORGET TO TIP THA BARTENDEEEEEEEEEEEEER
>>55623616IT'S CLIPPING BITCH
>>55623817i'd agree, but R.A.P. Music is still better
>>55623616>>55623616love the production, LOVE the production, but dont like daveed at all. the two are completely incongruent for me. his slick speedy flow just sounds silly compared to death grips
>>55623721Williams mix ain't even a track ya dipalso Ends is great
>>55623817>band has 2 intro songs
>>55623817break mirrors, up my sleeves
>>55624874>one intro for each albumHow's being retarded?
*hissss*swag
>>55624784yeah its too much
>>55624885>post yfw its a meme
>>55624885>doesn't understand the context
>>55625258>posting dead people on a blue board
>>55624163>mfwThis man with the thoughts!
>>55625314>people
I felt like it tried way too hard at some points to be "experimental".
Takes the 2nd place on my 2014 list, while Meshes of Voice are 3rd and Alt-J's TIAY is 1st (inb4 pleb taste). Just listen to CLPPNG when you don't sleep for a very long time and you have these constant headaches. This album is a cure for this, trust me
>>55623817>muh fast rapping dude are you 12?
>>55623616I hated it. This is the album people claimed Yeezus was - it confuses aggression for obnoxiousness and it isn't nearly as experimental as it thinks it is. Unlike Yeezus, it isn't even remotely fun to listen to.
when it came out i thought it was a 10/10, at this point i feel like it's at best a 9/10.lots of talent in the group. lots of intelligence. they are doing simple things but in a smart way. i'm looking forward to their next album.
>>55623721>>55623871Tonight isn't a bad song. It's no dark midcity song, but it's a solid track. Not their best, but far from shit.
>>55623912I don't know why people hate this track. I feel like it's kind of tongue-in-cheek. If not, I just choose to listen to it as if it's a parody of hip-pop music. When he says 'Who fuckin tonight', it sounds to me like he's making fun of the people at the club by simplifying the reality of their stupid sex quests. Does no one else think all the autotune stuff was done in satire?Although I agree Gangsta Boo is shit.
>>55623871Story 2 is one of the most insanely cool rap tracks of the past 5-10 years. The guy raps in alternating beats (4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 7/4) with a coherent story that rhymes (in alternating beat!), and the buildup of the instrumental is insane.
