I don't know what's worse, this album, or the people who unironically revere it as one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

>> No.55603634

you just don't get it

I refuse to listen to something as disgusting-sounding as Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart.

Fucking ew.

The people who cry out, "I don't get iiiiit"

I mean, if TMR is the most difficult record most people here have heard, I don't have much faith in the board.

maybe this will help you understand

This album is the litmus test for posers. Anyone who claims to likes it is only pretending to have an appreciation for experimental music.

>> No.55604039

There is literally (I know 'literally' is overused but seriously) a specific way of "getting" this album. The people that like it like it for a reason. It clicks, there's a way of listening to it so that you hear what you're supposed to.

If you can't access that part of your brain then I am sorry but making this shitposts are a waste of everybody's time.

>> No.55604448

I get it, I just don't like it. There are others who have done polytonality a lot better IMO.

weel, you don't

there is clearly plenty of that on this album, it doesn't sound good here though

>> No.55605076

so for us plebs who don't "get it" what is the best way for us to try to get it...if it's something other than repeated listens?

>implying every single person that has ever claimed to see aesthetic merit in TMR was merely trying to impress others

oh my poor, dear child. you'll either understand that different people have vastly divergent appreciations of all the arts, and that there's nothing wrong in that, or you'll forever be an aesthetic fascist who will attempt to impose his will at every turn, insulting everyone that praises works you don't immediately enjoy as devoid of merit simply because you don't understand it or aren't patient enough to put in the effort to meet the artist halfway (and again, there's nothing wrong with you making that decision)

>"they can't possibly enjoy this can they?"
>"must be like an in-joke, right? an initiation - a rite of passage, like going on a snipe hunt..."

THERE'S MORE THAN WHAT YOU THOUGHT
