What are the chances of getting fucked by the government for pirating music? Should we all be concerned?

>> No.55528017

my friend got caught and it was by his internet provider.
they just threatened to shut off his service and report them to the g men.
if youre worried about getting caught, use soulseekqt, its basically untraceable and its easier to get obscure music

I download a few discographies a month with rutracker.
Has anybody had any problems with their internet provider with rutracker?

Most ISPs will send warnings first, if you haven't gotten anything yet you're likely in the clear
I got caught by my ISP two or three times before getting a VPN, they don't like having to report people but it's pretty obvious when someone is uploading / downloading an exorbitant amount of data. Just suck it up and spend 6 bucks a month on a VPN, the peace of mind alone is worth it

as far as I know, when you're using a communal wifi at a college, etc it becomes slightly more difficult to track who is doing the massive uploading/downloading, so they don't bother witchu

That's where I got caught. Basically the people in the IT department in your school are able to see the IP addresses of all the devices connected to their WiFi and have email addresses of each, so you'd get an email from them before they went through with any actual legal actions. If you use a VPN it doesn't hide you exactly, but it does give them a bullshit IP address they won't be able to connect to anyone without doing a lot of work, and if your VPN is legit and doesn't sell your info (make sure you get a decent VPN) then you're in no danger at all of that happening.

I torrented a lot of music and never got caught for that. What I did get caught for was movies and HBO shows. If you're just doing music and you're not downloading a crazy amount, you're probably fine without a VPN unless you're getting super high-profile releases right when they become available on torrenting sites.

Basically, you should just educate yourself a bit on torrenting. Know what trackers are, how to protect yourself better, and how ISP's work and legal actions they might take. Most ISPs won't ever actually pursue any legal action unless you keep blatantly torrenting after they ask you to stop. You don't really have to worry if you're careful and aware of what you're doing.

Some colleges (mine does at least) require you to login into their WiFi with your personal account. Not sure if that'd give you your own personal IP address but I'm assuming they could track you through this. mine offers a public WiFi access point so I'm assuming thatd be easier to avoid getting caught with

They most definitely can track you pretty easily if you're using college WiFi. Your IP isn't connected to your wireless, it's connected to your device itself. Public WiFi can be better, but if the same people who are managing the private student WiFi manage the public one they can pretty easily cross check your IP still

technically everything you do online is recorded. I've read that if somebody were to do a backround check on a person that they could even go through their entire online history.
So if your even wondering why you didnt get hired just remember all those words like "nigger" and "4chan" in your online history

Damn thats cool. My college blocks torrenting and I'm too afraid to try to find a work around

>>55528531
Okay that's what I figured so I guess it's not different than doing it on your own WiFi at home. just don't be stupid about it and you should be good
