Only 20 days until the release of Simple Songs! Are you hyped?

+1 to hype meter

Go watch "Love Liza" for which he did the soundtrack/score. Also, "Movie on the way down" is one of most misery soaked songs I've ever heard.

I'd suck his dick so hard.

I actually have never listened to a whole album besides pic related (which is fantastic), but I'm still ultra hyped.

I don't know why I haven't to be honest, which one should I listen to in preparation?

Same guy, if it helps Philip Seymour Hoffman played the central character in the film. The movie was about his wife's suicide. A great movie and one of the best pairings of soundtrack and film I've ever witnessed. In addition, PSH shares some physical traits of Jim.

Oh man, you are a lucky dog.

His most well known albums are those he released on Drag City: Bad Timing, Eureka, Insignificance, and The Visitor.

Bad Timing is excellent long-form acoustic folk tunes. All instrumental, kind of in the style of John Fahey and Roy Harper.

Eureka, aka Fellatio Bunny, is probably his most well known album. Real good Sunday morning tunes, beautifully composed. One of my favorite albums to smoke to, probably the most similar sonically to HTAT.

Insignificance is a more indie rock focused version of Eureka. Still some prime compositional work here though, but just a hair weaker than the previous two releases.

The Visitor is a 38 minute track that seamlessly flows between different movements (Jim claims over 200 separate recorded parts were used). Like Bad Timing, it is purely instrumental, but The Visitor feel much more relaxed, like riding a lazy river and drifting alongside all Jim has to offer.

thank you for these descriptions, I'll try Eureka first. The Visitor sounds intriguing as well

I literally have a CD copy of The Visitor on my desk right now that I have not listened to. And then I see this thread. Welp.

>> No.55507160

I wonder if there's any connection between the same color/lighting scheme with Simple Songs as with The Visitor. I liked how the disco ball appeared on both Bad Timing and The Visitor and how both albums were centered around lengthy instrumental pieces, but I'm curious as to what, if any, relationship Simple Songs will have with The Visitor.

>> No.55507361

Is simple songs confirmed to be non-instrumental? I thought i read somewhere it was a return to a Eureka/Insignificance/Halfway type sound
