Why do people hate this album? Yeah it sounds like a Seasame Street acoutic pop, but its still pretty cohesive and extremely relaxing

The beach boys are shit, in my opinion.

I absolutely love it. My favorite Beach Boys album.

Why do people hate it? Because people on /mu/ are fucking clueless.

I listened to both Beach Boys Love You and Adult/Child the other day. I thought they were great.

Better than Today! by a hearty mile, though still not anything on Pet Sounds, SMiLE or Surf's Up.

Love you is pretty great too

stop lying, nobody here hates Friends, because it's really unpopular album, even for Beach Boys standards.

This one reminds me of elevator music

Most of the BB instrumental tracks are pretty great though

Really sweet little album, shame it isn't longer.

I've never seen anyone say something negative about Friends. But it usually doesn't make peoples 'essential beach boys' list either which is weird.

The excactly same situation applies to Wild Honey.

Friends seems to apply pretty low to the post-pets sounds era (Smiley Smile to Surf's Up)
Surfs Up, Smiley, and Sunflower are pretty high, 20/20 Friends and Wild Honey are pretty low

Its pretty neat, you can hear the wah-wah trumpet from Child is the Father of the Man in the Birds song

That's one of my favorite parts of the album. Now I have to go listen to it in full thanks.

Surf's Up is great, including it.

I Went to Sleep is a perfect song for Friends. Sometimes I substitute it for Transcendental Meditation and just pretend that's the tracklisting.

>>55491209
Not really all that weird. It's just a really really strong album with a ton of charm to it and contributions from Dennis, a then blossoming songwriter. It doesn't really have any innovations to speak of, and its compositional quality isn't quite on the level of what people consider essential Beach Boys albums.

I listen to Friends all of the time though because it's cozy as hell and Brian's vocals on it are perfection.

And to those who feel like the opener ends too soon, here:

I hope this is new to somebody.

"I just edited it because it was better shorter." - Brian Wilson

Pretty vague answer. I'm guessing he just thought fading out at ~40s just made for a better opener. I think I can see where he's coming from there because the opening lyrics are really personal and intimate but the second verse less so. Maybe he just didn't like how the second verse follows a different melody than the first.
