Are they really sell outs?
>>55489949I don't think they sold out, just changed what they're about. I can't think of any particular actions they took that were blatantly about making more money. American Idiot made them rich enough.
>>55489949Nah, they just lost their creative drive.
>>55489949You have to be good at some point to sell out. They pretty much always sucked.

>>55490095"Sell out" doesn't mean going from good to bad, it means abandoning your principles.
>>55490138what he said
stop reminding me i enjoy this band
They got on a major label after like two albums m8
I dont like green day but it doesn't seem to me that they really changed their music or abandoned their principals in any way
Not really, but I find their old subject matter to be much less pretentious and actually a bit deeper than their new subject matter. Crying over girls and wanking mean a lot more to me than 9/11.
>>55489949there was a question on Jeopardy the other day that called them "Punk Revival"
Maybe. Their music got harder after signing to a major label
>>55490774Nimrod is a good album, and Insomniac is alright, but everything else is pretty forgettable.
>>55493819>not enjoying american idiot
>>55489949no. kerplunk and dookie are pretty similar albums in terms of songwriting
>>5549381921st Century Breakdown, I think, may actually be their best album (I usually say Nimrod). It's been underrated since the period following its release. It has their most layered music and very few duds. plus the concept is a bit smarter than American Idiot, which its advocates seem to forget had a lot of bland songs like Are We the Waiting.
