I tell most of you this honestly: Your ears are not evolved enough to hear this properly.

Do you mean the anco fans that condemn Centipede Hz? I agree!! It's inexplicable --- literally not receiving it correctly -- and I just hope that it hasn't contaminated the band's confidence for the next album.

And I don't mean I'm from the future or an "evolutionary" thing, it's just that when I was hearing a song off it - Mercury Man - all these details I hadn't even heard before! came to me, and it's my favourite album as it is. (How at the end the shaker and beat make this little compunction on those final kind of stampy sounds.) It's just our perception of any piece of music is dependent on our own balance of the sensorium -- so I guess I accuse thee detractors of that very thing, or at least their sensorium shuts off when they hear 1! 1! 1! 1! or whatever (based of pre-conceptions of AnCo / mu hive mind whatever it is.) It's just fuck it's by far their most sonically detailed and intricate album stuff like SJ or Sung Tongs don't even compare (not hating on those whatsoever tho)

But it's funny you say the "future" thing since the band talks about the idea for the album is kind of this "space station taking in transmissions":

Holy fuck, get your head out of your ass. I like the album too but this post makes me want to vomit.

It's an okay album, but the issue is that it's almost TOO sonically detailed. When something is so jammed packed and dense, it all starts to blend together and becomes slightly bland and same-y. It's like a clock: if you go past 12 then you end up back at 1 again.

it makes a ton of sense of you hear it live, seriously stands up well to the rest of their discog, but if you just like p4k and listen to it expecting a happy evolution from MPP it wouldn't seem as great as it is

Hmm okay I get that, and yeah that's the general criticism I see... I guess it opens up this discussion, should an album be conducive to be immediately enjoyed? Or is it allowed to have these extra details that can baffle the unsuspecting listener...

That's totally cool, I think though that what redeems it is just (in my opinion) the band is seasoned enough with song-writer that underneath the noise of it (the centipede hz of it) the melodies are infectious in and of themselves... They're so utterly crazy but mellifluous and pleasing (maybe Avey's tracks the most) that they hook you, if you fall for it, into this loop of hearing it all the details begin to resonate and the real album comes to fruition.

Yeah exactly the 2013 tour was the greatest thing to have been happening that year in the whole world of anything hands down.

Unfortunately I dabbled in M at the time so when I took a second cap I just, started to lose my presence... I don't think they played the full thing of it, though. After the beginning lyrics the music sped up and started transitioning again.

That sucks, man. I haven't seen them live, but with the LE CHz they included live performances from the tour and the version of Brother Sport is mind-blowing. Panda and Avey literally have a screaming match at on point.

Yeah even though I was fucked up, kind of in-the-clouds I have this memory of Applesauce starting, the sound quieting and then Avey's voice and this piano coming out of it, that I still find surreal and amazing

Was literally about to come on here and make this exact thread. Are you me?

I was just listening to this in my truck on the way home from work.

With the exception of Wide Eyed and Father Time, it's a staggering album.

Damn dude, I guess "what better way to remind" ourselves of it, eh? :P I sometimes wonder if the fan base will come to accept the album more with time, that it really does take time to have them receive it...

See, if I have to think of a weakpoint it's sort of just in the directional shift of New Town Burnout and Monkey Riches... but at the same time it's perfect for the mood to get darker...

It's like Moonjock - Father Time are these individual transmissions, but then New Town Burnout - Amanita is this sequential suit that is a rejection-then-resurrection of something (the internet age, dissociation, divorce from nature is my interpretation).

>> No.55487189

>>55487091
Pulleys is second or third best, I think every bar of that song functions so thoroughly to its greatness, a compact piece with a jungle inside it... 3:30.

But Amanita... I still don't feel it clicks with me all the way. I think it's the song I need to hear on shrooms or acid.

I just read the pitchfork review but I'll post this as a good counter to it. I think it addresses the "cluttered" criticism well. "is big and bolstered, exhilarating rather than inaccessible, and certainly living for every moment."
