I hate them, but my friend likes them and doesn't know why they are boring and self-indulgent.
>>55435559If not for that wallpaper alone. Fuck.
I got this guy at work. He buys 1,700 dollar JP sig model MM's. He just does it, and I can't even afford rent. This is why I hate DT, terrible band, terrible idea. Terrible product pushing garbage.
>>55435559They're an insanely talented band instrumentally that can also write and compose melodic and worthwhile music. They're perfect for people with an open mind and that can appreciate both self-indulgent instrumentals that go on and on but also appreciate masterfully crafted melodies. They also are really fucking good at transitioning from one section to a completely different section without forcing it too hard like a lot of Prog bands.
>>55435559Their first three albums are great
They started out as GOAT semi-heavy prog rock, but when Jordan Rudess joined (Scenes From a Memory) it became (and I hate this word) a wankfest; tasteless solos back and forth, irritating synth sounds, and poorly-written songs that just seemed like vessels for that session's SICK GUITAR/SYNTH DUEL. Lately they've just been straddling that grimdark buttrock aesthetic with try-hard "heavy" songs that have no musical substance. They were my favorite band when I was a teenager, and I still love I&W and Awake (and still hold that Train and Octavarium are mindless fun), but damn they've fallen off.
>>55437105Makes sense. Just look at these vids he made. It's like he struggles to contain his wankery, and finally gives in.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nuNRPof7WPc
Dream Theater basically made a career out of ripping off other bands styles and making them sound more complex and annoying. They've ripped off of Rush (obviously), Metallica, Tool, Muse, U2, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, Radiohead, Red, and several others.
