>>55352245 yeah no it's just fucking stupid. even if he couldn't keep up on the rapping through a whole show, or he wanted to take a breather during a hook or two he could just let the instrumentals speak for themselves during his downtime and it wouldn't sound so stupid, nor would it kill any excitement in the crowd if he was into it, dancing or whatever. Especially because his instrumentals sound so thick. I'm not saying rappers need to break out synths and recreate everything live but rapping over the studio vocals 1. brings attention to the lower quality of a person's live voice and 2. sounds cluttered and awkward, especially because they will always fall out of perfect sync occasionally. I saw Death Grips live in 2012, great show, but I felt like half the reason Stefan screamed nonstop is so he could drown out his other voice and the weird sound just took away from the performance. I just don't get what the point is considering they had to have recorded the instrumentals at some point. They could even play through their set at home or in studio, minus vocals, and play that recording instead. In Ugly's case he produced the beats on a computer to rap over so he can definitely break out instrumental tracks. Fuck, Ugly could play an instrumental set and bounce around stage yelling and Bitch I'm Lugubrious would still kick ass. |
