Give me one reason why this isn't The Beatles best album. Just try.
>>55299582Sgt Pepper
>>55299582Sgt. Peppers because the best songs on MMT were meant to be on there.
>>55299621Yeah Brian Ebstein said not putting Strawberry Fields on Sgt was the biggest mistake in his career
>>55299582It lacks the cohesion of Pepper and Abbey Road.
It's definitely their best in terms of songs but it lacks the cohesion that, say, Sgt. Pepper or Abbey Road has, and it lacks the variety of Revolver or the White Album since MMT is basically all psych/baroque pop.Side B is a lot better than side A though so it does feel a little "lopsided" when I listen to it. That sort of detracts from the enjoyment a bit because I just start to feel like it'd be nicer to just start on side B.Also can someone tell me why some people dislike The Fool on the Hill so much? I learned recently that it's not universally adored and I have no idea how. Paul is fucking rad as hell on this album, every single song.
>>55299582stoner pleb
>>55299638Only to pleb ears
>>55299630George Martin said that. But yeah, it's a shame the public were pressuring them so hard for a new hit in the new year.
>>55299653Yeah sorry just realised that
>>55299645>Side B is a lot betterBut Fool on the Hill, Flying and Walrus are the best songs on the album
>>55299665Nah mate. I love Fool on the Hill and IATW, but I never really thought Flying had any place on this record with this many fantastic songs; it's a pretty stale psych rock instrumental as far as I can tell. And you're out of your mind if you think Lennon and Macca don't BTFO FotH and IATW with Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever.
>>55299582It isn't Abbey Road.
The Beatles would have to be good in order to have a 'best' album.
MMT is so much better than Sgt. Peppers. Less of Paul's granny shit.
>>55299724nicely memed
>>55299724No they wouldn't.
>tfw the Love version of Walrus is so much better it makes listening to MMT irritating
>>55299729Your Mother Should Know is "granny shit" if When I'm 64 is.
>>55299748He said less.
>>55299729>Less of Paul's granny shit.It always bothers me when people use this insult. Could you dickride Lennon any harder than to use the exact same phrasing he used to shit on Paul's tunes on Sgt. Pepper's? It's not even a legitimate criticism.
>>55299757What else is?
>>55299774Leaving home, lovely rita
>>55299787She's Leaving Home is just a slice of Eleanor Rigby-esque baroque pop mastery, there's nothing overly cutesy or silly about it. Lovely Rita I can see but it's still too weird, I mean, that outro certainly doesn't lend itself to lowest-common-denominator classification.
>>55299770I like Paul more than John, on the whole. But he is guilty of granny shit.
>>55299787>She's Leaving Home>granny shitHave you no heart?
I like MMT because it's the most Pet Soundsy
>>55299808But what the hell is "granny shit"? How is it inherently bad?Like, it's an empty criticism. It was empty when Lennon said it and it's empty when you parrot it.>>55299787>she's leaving home>granny shitAre you out of your mind? Just because the song is from the perspective of two parents doesn't make it granny shit. It's an incredibly poignant song and the arrangement is sublime. Also how is Lovely Rita granny, whatever that means? Because of Martin's piano part? It's got a ton of great psychedelic moments, and psych at that time was anything but granny shit. "Granny shit" to me would imply something old fashioned sounding and at that point in time psychedelic was the farthest thing from old fashioned.
>>55299770Wasn't it Ringo who coined the Granny insult to describe Maxwell's Silver Hammer? It was him or John but I can't remember who.
>liking the beatles
>>55299948Doubtful, given that John had called Obla-Di-Obla-Da granny shit, which predated Maxwell's Silver Hammer. Plus the Lennon quote for ODOD is "paul's granny music shit" and MSH is "_more of_ paul's granny music shit" which implies that he dropped the bomb on ODOD first.Plus Ringo is an angel and wouldn't say something that rude. W-would he?
>>55299960graciously memed, m'lord
Flying is among the worst songs the Beatles ever recorded. Also Blue Jay Way isn't great.
>>55299984Ah, I remember now. Ringo said about MSH That he thought the subject matter was way too dark for what the song was, and That's why he didn't like it
>>55300015
>>55300036Yeah, that's a more Ringo thing to say. Too pure for this world.>>55300015>Flying is among the worst songs the Beatles ever recorded.I don't think I'd disagree with this statement but I don't really agree either. I think its biggest problem is that it's just not noteworthy at all. It works in the context of the album but that's it, really.
>>55299582It's not an album really. Side A is a soundtrack, and side B is a singles comp.
>>55299582It's not an album, that's why. It was released as an EP soundtrack to the film and they just put a bunch of their singles and unreleased tracks to flesh out an album for America because they didn't like EP's.
>>55299808This is /mu/, I believe the proper term is 'grannyshitcore'.
>>55300235Spoiler: all any of the Beatles albums are are a collection of songs recorded around the same time
>>55300374My point was that it wasn't written as an album u fud. There wouldn't have been much thought about pacing or even sequencing for MMT, The Beatles wouldn't have been involved in whatever Capitol was doing in America.
>>55299582I agree, love this album more than sex itself.
>>55301350The Pleables never wrote anything as an album, they just collected their singles.Except for Sgt Peppers where they added an intro and outro
>>55301618Why are you even here. Even Brian Wilson said that Rubber Soul felt like a coherent whole like no one else had done ever before.
>>55301748That was luck. Even Paul McCartney said that he didn't even know albums could be coherent until he heard Pet Sounds.
>>55301826wait, source?
>>55301826there weren't very many coherent albums before pet sounds, mainly because there weren't many people writing and performing all of their own work.
>>55299582Revolver is better.
>>55301853https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfgyRRYtP1I
>>55301932timestamp? i didn't catch him saying that at all and i watched the "influence of pet sounds" part like three times.
Revolver and Rubber Soul are better
>>55301826I don't find Pet Sounds to be more or less "cohesive" than Help! or Hard Day's night, or literally anything the Beatles and others had done before. What does cohesive mean to you?
>>55299787>Leaving homeThat's a masterpiece you pleb, released while 99% of bands were talking about "FUCK YOUR PARENTS DUUUDE DROP OUT"
>>55302133OK that's the wrong video, I know I heard him say it somewhere but I can't be arsed to find the video so I guess you're free to call bullshit.
>>55299733This
Bluejay way really creeps me out
>>55302236i won't do that bc i want to believe that what you say is true so i hope i come across that vid sometime
>>55302236yea I've never heard him say that tbh and never heard anyone mention it before so I call it
>>55302191Exactly. That's why Sgt. Pepper's was so good - The Beatles were mature enough to give a holistic view of society at the time, leaving no age range out of their message.
>>55299665>not Baby You're a Rich Man
