For the past year I've been listening to a lot of Zappa and I've exhausted 80% of his discography, everything up to 1980.

I'm looking for some more crazy, imaginative RIO/Avant/Jazz Fusion/Prog Rock or whatever you'd like to label his music.

Any suggestions ?

With Zappa, I particularly like the use of horns and brass in his compositions while mixing it up with rock and jazz.

I'm looking for stuff that is super crazy but still has a recognizable melody

Coincidentally Mr.Bungle is another favorite of mine and is the only band that I can relate Frank Zappa to

Hey this isn't too bad, a bit "empty" if you know what I mean, but It'll make a nice addition to the collection.

Are they Canadian ?

If you liked We're Only in It for the Money and Lumpy Gravy, this is the conclusion/throwback album. And it's really cool on its own. The music is done with the synclavier to achieve some shit that is difficult to do with human hands.

Also, you can get Lumpy Money and hear the different mixes of the two albums. It used to be somewhat difficult to find the original Lumpy Gravy and Zappa's new mix of Money, which has questionable new drum tracks but also some improved sound here and there and restored versions of Harry, You're a Beast and other censored parts.

...and as far as non-Zappa I find that John McLaughlin is a very similar guitar player/does a similar brand of fusion.

I've only ever heard of this album once in all of my lifetime, and it was someone recommending some of his more obscure stuff.

I'd be interested to see what he considers difficult to do with human hands.

thanks

Zappa is not RIO, like at all.
Ever tried these Mexican loons?
