Is this album /mu/core?
>>55277333I hope not
yesnomaybe
I think half of this board likes it and the other half hate itI think they suffer because of their shitty fanbasethey're pretty tumblrcore
>>55277372
people who hate it hate it cause of the shitty effects thrown all over the placepeople who like it like it cause of the lyrics and guitar and shit, I'm sure the people who hate it also enjoy that, but the reverb kills it for a lot of people. It's not /mu/core, it's definitely /tumblr/core, but that doesn't mean it's not good.
>>55277333A lot of /mu/ seems to like, quite a few hate it though.I guess it stems from it being revivalist, but honestly I just don't see how that effects its quality.Sure it's a classic sound, but Kevin Parker manages to keep it fresh in a way that other popular neo-psychedelic bands don't, such as Temples, who's songs literally sound like unreleased Lennon remasters.Personally I like it, not as much as Innerspeaker though, I wasn't big of of the move towards synths.7/10 personally.
>>55277408I love lonerism but I don't give a shit about the lyrics. I just like the instruments, sometimes they go overboard with the effects yeah but>Mind Mischief>Feels Like We Only Go Backwardsand>Keep on Lyingare all pretty great tracks imo.
It doesn't matter. Do you like it OP?If so, then its fag-core
Not /mu/-core. Some like it, some don't. I like it, but I see why people don't.
>>55277408But i like it because of the "shitty effects"
>>55277333i never understood why its considered better then the first album. its just the same but more repetitive
>>55277489Tame Impala has some incredible lyrics though, especially on Innerspeaker. And even Lonerism is a pretty fantastic take on isolation>the only who's really judging you is yourself>you won't get far telling me that you are>all you're meant to beIt's incredibly relatable and wise advice for anyone that there is always room to grow as an individual. >>55279085It's more cohesive and has better recording quality. I too prefer Innerspeaker tho
>>55277446Wow, a well articulated opinion. Good job on not shitposting.
>>55279505>Tame Impala has some incredible lyrics thoughI'm not so much a fan of this style of shitposting but DUDE INTROVERSION LMAOWayne Coyne did Tame Impala better than Tame Impala did Tame Impala.
>>55279058This. Also, I'm a sucker for synth jams.
>>55280691Except Tame Impala has almost an opposite ethic to Wayne Manchild Coyne>implying "Nothing ever changes, no matter how long you do your hair, it looks the same to everyone else" isn't a GOAT lyric.
no
>>55277408shitty effects? who cares, a lot of people listen to Mac Demarco
>>55280998
>>55280998>>55279505Is this what passes for good lyrics around here nowadays?
>>55280691Why would you shitpost instead of making a solid point then. You just deflected my statement. I'm stsrting to think you haven't heard Tame Impala and therefore can't honestly address what I said. And the Flaming Lips have an entirely different lyrical style than Impala so now I'm just confused>>55280998Agreed
>>55277333I don't even care about it anywayI wouldn't listen to a word any of them sayThey just talk about themselves all dayOne day I'll be a starThey'll be sorry
>>55281880These are pretty superficial things to be praising The Flips for and are the mark of a pleb or shitposting overload where they're just dissing both bands.
>>55281897I'm not calling Kevin Parker the Leonard Cohen of our generation, I'm saying he brings thought provoking and valuable lyrics to the table in a genre that usually doesn't concern itself with lyricism past simple vivid imagery. There's more to read into on Lonerism than on a good 50% or more of the Beatles' discography. Of course the Beatles were better, for other reasons, but I don't know why you would hold your lyrical expectations so high for a psych rock record
>>55280691>some other artist is good so that means you can't listen to or like anyone elseplease
>>55281950
>>55282093except words like "epic," "marvelous," "exotic," "tapestry," etc. are vague as fuck and can all be used to describe anything you like, and the contrasting oversimplification can be done to anything you don't like.
>>55281960These aren't particularly thought provoking lyrics. They give a pretty conventional viewpoint presented in an unimaginative way on issues that any well adjusted person really should already have thought about. Maybe for a preteen who has never thought that "hmm maybe not everyone is perfect" this is some profound statement though. Also, Beatles lyrics improved significantly over the latter half of their career and John Lennon's solo career featured particularly great lyrics. But you're right. expectations for psych rock shouldn't be set high. There's obvious exceptions like SMiLE era Beach Boys/ Van Dyke Parks but as a whole it isn't the most important aspect for this genre. Which is why it's even more confusing that you're trying to argue it as a reason they're good. Like I don't listen to punk rock for interesting instrumentation and complex harmony. Why would I start trying to argue the quality of a punk band from that perspective?
>>55282093These are actually pretty cringy. And I love the bands they're talking about.
drone does psychedelic better than psychedelic bands do
>>55282050Oh no you can certainly like it.But just know you like the pleb watered down shit.
