what does /mu/ think of this guy?

most rap enthusiasts swear by him but i don't get it

>> No.55247289

he's a good rapper, and he's a smart guy. he has a line that goes like "i brooklyn dodger them, i jack, i rob, i sin, aww man, i'm jackie robinson except when i run base, i dodge the pen". that shit blew me away

>> No.55247296

He is so orignal. He raps about money , drugs and women.

>> No.55247301

so yeah i gather his wordplay is what he is most respected for

do you think his flow is particularly remarkable? like just his voice and mic presence and cadence and shit?

>> No.55247330

Reasonable doubt was his only good album.

>> No.55247332

>>55247289

Yeah he's the best at really complex analogies/references and shit but he's got the best ear for bears which is what makes him one if the GOATS.

Never got the appeal, but I'm not a big rap fan. Everything I've heard of him is just boring and sounds bad.

He'll probably go down as one of the top 5 rappers of all time. Definitely in top 10.

I love Reasonable Doubt. I think it's a 10/10 album. But I don't really care for the rest of his stuff, my next favorite thing of "his" is probably Watch the Throne...

nah, not with all the shit that's tainted his legacy

Andre 3000 has one bad album, and he clearly put zero effort into it. That's all-time material. Jay tried really hard to get acclaim for Magna Carta but he's just wildly out of touch and probably will never make a good album again

>> No.55248299

he's a trend hopper that's why almost all of his albums sound dated because he's not creative enough to consistently make timeless records

it really bothers me that the general public treat him like some god when no one would give a shit about him on that level if he wasn't married to beyonce

almost all of his business ventures have failed too

he thinks he's a smart thinker when it comes to business but literally every time he goes into a new venture he brings up him selling crack as to why he thinks he can do it

fuck him

why was magna carta so utterly forgettable

>blueprint not literally a blueprint for later 2000's rap with more pronounced "soft" sounds and soul production along with less technically difficult flows in the mainstream

>Almost like Beyonce didn't also benefit in relevance getting married to Jay Z

i said almost all of his albums aren't timeless. reasonable doubt and the blueprint are his only great albums with the black album just behind it. everything else is filled with trend following production. jay also got a lot worse since he bit young chris' entire style

most of his net worth was from rocawear and touring

he still uses selling crack as a basis for his business career

>> No.55249631

He's okay but he he'd be better if he slowed down a lot of his albums other than the well noted one's feel like just white noise he produced to cover gaps. And it really shows when you look at the stories about how short he spends in the studio.

>> No.55249894

he fell off when he came out with show me what you got.

he really is one of the greatest of all time, and is highly respected by his peers for a reason. /mu/ doesn't like him because they don't know anything about rap.

it has to do with the fact that he's seriously phoning in his verses nowadays. I don't think anyone doubts that jigga can be an A-list rapper when he wants to/the inspiration strikes, but so many of his recent releases are boring as fuck, weird and cringey (see: Monster verse), or he's trying too hard to be a critical darling (like with MCHG, which backfired spectacularly).
