what does /mu/ think of this guy?most rap enthusiasts swear by him but i don't get it
he's a good rapper, and he's a smart guy. he has a line that goes like "i brooklyn dodger them, i jack, i rob, i sin, aww man, i'm jackie robinson except when i run base, i dodge the pen". that shit blew me away
He is so orignal. He raps about money , drugs and women.
>>55247289so yeah i gather his wordplay is what he is most respected fordo you think his flow is particularly remarkable? like just his voice and mic presence and cadence and shit?
Reasonable doubt was his only good album.
>>55247289Yeah he's the best at really complex analogies/references and shit but he's got the best ear for bears which is what makes him one if the GOATS.
>>55247245>reasonable doubt>black album>the blueprint>assorted hitz like >hard knock life>empire state of mind>1-900-Hustler>Big Pimpinone of the GOATs
>>55247289It's son not sin though.
>>55247301On his first 2-3 albums yes. Past that, he's 6/10
>>55247245Didn't like him even when i was going thru my 90s east coast rap phase
>>55247245reasonable doubt bangs hard
>>55247245Never got the appeal, but I'm not a big rap fan. Everything I've heard of him is just boring and sounds bad.
>>55247358close enough
He'll probably go down as one of the top 5 rappers of all time. Definitely in top 10.
He's okay. Never been a fan of his flow or the sound of his voice.
>>55247245hes aightthanks for asking
it stopped being good like 12 years ago. the only reason rap fans like him now is because "hes a real nigga making dat bank hes a billionaire rapper black man thug drug dealer from da streets"
YUNG HOV YA HERDUH UH UH UH YEH
>>55247301his voice and flow is the reason why i can't enjoy his music. i've read some of his lyrics and i think it's great, but i just can't stand listening to him.
>>55247289>liking nigger music
>>55247821>>>/pol/
I love Reasonable Doubt. I think it's a 10/10 album. But I don't really care for the rest of his stuff, my next favorite thing of "his" is probably Watch the Throne...
>>55247245Just another rapper to throw into the mountain of shit that is that genre.
>>55247880>not liking the black albumLUCIFER SON OF DE MORNIN
>>55247448nah, not with all the shit that's tainted his legacyAndre 3000 has one bad album, and he clearly put zero effort into it. That's all-time material. Jay tried really hard to get acclaim for Magna Carta but he's just wildly out of touch and probably will never make a good album again
>>55247245I used to like him when I was 15
>>55247448>implying he is no the best rapper of all timeGet cucked
he's a trend hopper that's why almost all of his albums sound dated because he's not creative enough to consistently make timeless recordsit really bothers me that the general public treat him like some god when no one would give a shit about him on that level if he wasn't married to beyoncealmost all of his business ventures have failed toohe thinks he's a smart thinker when it comes to business but literally every time he goes into a new venture he brings up him selling crack as to why he thinks he can do itfuck him
why was magna carta so utterly forgettable
>>55248299>blueprint not literally a blueprint for later 2000's rap with more pronounced "soft" sounds and soul production along with less technically difficult flows in the mainstream>Almost like Beyonce didn't also benefit in relevance getting married to Jay Z> as if500 million plus net worth possible without successful financial ventures in the music industry of this last decade >acknowledges he's was a terrible drug dealer >you literally have no idea what you're talking about
I like rap a lot, but i don't much care for him. I can't really stand listening to his voice for more than a few minutes.
>>55247289back to reddit
he manage to do something only dead rappers have done, staying relivent from 90's until today.
>>55248666all thanks to you, satan
>>55248375i said almost all of his albums aren't timeless. reasonable doubt and the blueprint are his only great albums with the black album just behind it. everything else is filled with trend following production. jay also got a lot worse since he bit young chris' entire stylemost of his net worth was from rocawear and touringhe still uses selling crack as a basis for his business career
He's okay but he he'd be better if he slowed down a lot of his albums other than the well noted one's feel like just white noise he produced to cover gaps. And it really shows when you look at the stories about how short he spends in the studio.
he fell off when he came out with show me what you got.
he really is one of the greatest of all time, and is highly respected by his peers for a reason. /mu/ doesn't like him because they don't know anything about rap.
>>55247341>Big PimpinSPENDIN CHEESE
>>55250093man, even if you like rap jay z is an out of touch old man who wont fucking retire
I like that song where hes like I DONT POP MOLLY I ROCK TOM FORD that's probably his best work.
>>55250148what does that have to do with his skills as a rapper?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dN3aS2RxfsBig L > Hova
Cockafella records
>>55250207it has to do with the fact that he's seriously phoning in his verses nowadays. I don't think anyone doubts that jigga can be an A-list rapper when he wants to/the inspiration strikes, but so many of his recent releases are boring as fuck, weird and cringey (see: Monster verse), or he's trying too hard to be a critical darling (like with MCHG, which backfired spectacularly).
