| >> | No.55241859 >Recent concerts + reviews Saw a TON of shows in the past week, including Sufjan, Lightning Bolt, Metz, Mark McGuire, The Soft Moon, Cold Specks, and Noveller. Sufjan was actually a bit underwhelming because of how restrained he sounded (his voice was a bit raspy too), but the interpretations and expansions of the Carrie & Lowell material were stunning. It sounded like he felt obligated to play some material of Illinois and even rushed through Concerning the UFOs..., which made me wish he just played whatever he wanted to instead of appealing to the more basic fans in the audience. It was still a great show, but I enjoyed his 2012 Christmas tour show more.

Brought out Leland for his California live debut, debuted a new song, plus had a ton of great improvised solos. Overall, the band sounded 10x better than when I saw them in the fall, and even then they sounded incredible. When I talked to them after the show, they told me that they're recording new material right now. Squarepusher was cool, played material mostly off the new album with two screens at a concave in the background. I found the visuals more interesting than the music. Some girl was fucked on molly and bouncing around the dancefloor though, that was cool. Mac DeMarco + Belle & Sebastian Mac was a bucketlist show for me. When I was an RA, I got hooked on pills and lean and stayed in my room and started falling behind in a lot of stuff after a breakup. Listening to "dumb meme goofball music" that reminded me of Wayne's World made me wanna keep living. the last girl I dated loved Mac so Salad Days was a big album for me. I had a ticket to see him last year, but got sick and had to sell my ticket. Was really excited, bought tickets in advance, ended up going with a qt Mac seemed really tired and kind of sad.His set was shorter than the ones that I had seen and heard, and a lot of the banter seemed forced. He still put on a good show, and maybe it was the need to be a "grown up band" since he was opening for B&S, but Mac and especially the band felt a lot tamer than their 2012 and 2013 selves. Overall happy I got to drunkenly sing along to "Ode to Viceroy" though. Belle & Sebastian were much better than expected. I only knew a few of their songs, and had only really listened to "IYFS" all the way through in recent memory. Stuart had good stage presence and the new material sounded nice. they invited people in the pit to dance on stage and had a girl who said that it was her first show to pick the closer. |

Don't really remember much but looking at my watch waiting for the thing to be over. The fans were annoying and the sound system sucked. >Joyce Manor not bad, crowd was as expected. Plus, Ian Cohen made his usual appearance. >Upset I drunkenly convinced Ali Koehler to give me an interview, and she did. she talked about Devin from DIIV being an asshole and how her boyfriend wants to kick his ass. show was alright. >The Garden my ex really liked them so I avoided them for a while. was pleasantly surprised. Got bit by some teenager with blue hair, though. >Del the Funkee Homosapien Really good show, lots of energy, good stage presence and banter. >White Fence went to this show because my friends wanted to go. Was able to get a free ticket at the last minute. It was at the Natural history Museum in LA, which was a cool backdrop. Being surrounded by burger teens and West LA white folks isn't really my thing, though. |
