Remember me /mu/? Remember how Death is SOTY 2015?

>> No.55123004

I enjoyed that album enough to listen to it a second time but I was never particularly enamored with it.

I'd be lying if I said I had much desire to listen to it again. I think it's a decent starting point for a band that might develop into something great later on. I just never felt it really arrested my attention.

I agree with you. Have you heard Public Strain by Women? That band was previously made up by members of Viet Cong and are much more interesting in my opinion.

Death and Bunker Buster are perfect though.

The only thing that great about this album is the lyrics.

OP here, not saying it's AOTY or anything but it's solid as fuck 8/10 core and Death is fucking fantastic

The only song that wasn't great was Newspaper Spoons. I still like Public Strain better though, nothing beats Bells coming on during a late night city drive or Drag Open at any time, ever.

>>55123129
Newspaper Spoons was a strange opener, but felt super This Heat to me which I enjoyed. I though Pointless Experience was kinda blah and the synths on Silhouettes totally threw me.

Agree with you on Public Strain. What a great album.

>> No.55123178

Really weird because I was so fucking into Women when they came out. I thought they had the most interesting sound of like, the whole decade. And then the guitarist dead and I said welp, that's that.

And then I heard about this band and tried to get into them, but I just couldn't get back to that level of hype. Definitely awesome music, but nothing about it blew my mind at all.

>>55123176
Pointless Experience, the coda in particular, really gripped me because I interpreted it as a lament to Chris Reimer, or was at least inspired by feelings towards his death. March of Progress gave me more This Heat vibes than Spoons did. The strum/left-right phase was pretty much copped from Paper Hats.

>> No.55123476

>>55123373
March of Progress was Paper Hats all the way, but those heavy hitting drums against that stark background didn't bring up any TH vibes for you? Interesting thought on Pointless Experience. I really liked the guitars on that one but Flegel's vocals felt almost too bland.

Upon a refreshing subsequent listen, I can really hear that middle stretch of the Deceit album coming through, more so than I did before.

>> No.55124156

This is the best interaction I've seen on /mu/ in a long time.

I'm really enjoying this album right now but I can understand how it is possible to loose interest. 8.5/10 for me as of now but I am biased to liking Canadian music

More good new Canadian stuff, stole it from the sharethread from last night. Youtube link doesn't do the album justice.

Right on with the Deceit comparison--that's definitely what I was getting at before. Newspaper was for sure a grower for me. I honestly think their next LP could be as good as Public Strain, especially if they kick up the noisiness a bit.

Seeing them live resparked my interest in them but then when I went back to listen to this album none of the studio versions were as good as they were live

>> No.55126368

Newspaper Spoons and Silhouettes were kind of cheesy and not really good at all, but the other tracks ranged from really good to fantastic.

Death is overrated though.

I saw them a few weeks after their drummer broke his hand, and they were still fucking incredible. I can't really listen to Death anymore because the live version was so good.
