Dear /mu/,

I'm familiar with well known trip hop artists like Massive Attack, Tricky, Morcheeba, Portishead, Hooverphonic, etc. I'm looking for good lesser known trip hop bands.

Sincerely,

Anon

Been getting more in-depth into trip hop recently too.
Have you heard Laika? Or Bowery Electric? Hawaii: Part II is also good, although I'm not sure if it's trip hop.

Mononome and Gorillaz' self-titled album come to mind. Also Lamb, though I didn't like what I heard of them much. Such a tiny genre sadly.

DJ Krush (I have his Meiso album, is good)
DJ Shadow
The Avalanches
deadmau5 (of all people) has a song called "Messages From Nowhere", that's surprisingly good.
Don't forget Four Tet.

Here's something from this year.
>Ghostpoet - Shedding Skin
It's a lot in the same alley as Tricky, but a lot more melancholic and depressing, and it tackles the emotional fallout of a divorce. It's one of the best albums of this year in my opinion.

I wouldn't say that Hawaii: Part II is trip-hop, but it's still an excellent album that would suggest checking out.

It is unfortunately a rather small genre.

A bit different in genre, but it might also be worth checking out Nujabes, DJ Okawari, Flying Lotus, and J Dilla.

If you want to tackle some of his solo work I would suggest starting with either Rounds or There Is Love In You. Those albums are probably his most well known, and probably also his best. You can then proceed to Pause, Everything Estatic, and 0181 if you like the first two albums.
