Exclusively listening to full albums is just as bad as exclusively listening to single tracks. There are different qualities to each way of listening, but they should not be mutually exclusive.
Come at me.

>> No.55081410

That's true
Genres like soul, disco, funk, rock n roll and general bleeps are not album genres

Yeah, I reckon when you start listening to music at first, it's a good idea to listen to it as the artist intended it. So listening to singles is perfectly fine. But my point is also, that when you get more musical knowledge and widen your tastes, experimenting with the way you listen to it can open up new musical experiences that you wouldn't have gotten if you _only_ listened to the music the way it was _intended_.

I skip songs if I don't like them. Fite me irl.

>> No.55082203

well, yeah. some artists write albums to be heard as a whole, others write albums as a collection of catchy material. if you just listen one way and not the other, you're missing out.

So are most albums. You've never listened to a Funkadelic album if you think there's no cohesion there.

I haven't got the patience to listen to full albums. I don't really care for how the songs are supposed to fit together. I just prefer judging single tracks.

It's funny how you clearly have no argument there and keep asking about my preferences just to trash mine
Those genres are single genres, you can't prove me wrong
Ask any funk enthusiast to list his favorite music and he'll give you mostly singles and compilations
Same with soul, and disco and rock n roll
Lurk /bleep/, they don't mention albums once
Most albums are just a bunch of songs but in those genres they are the huge majority

I'll admit that soul was a singles genre prior to the 60s (or at least 70s) because a lot of artists simply didn't have albums available, or only released a few singles over their lifetime. By the 60s/70s, Western music in general was moving towards the album format, and that you pretend black artists weren't capable of creating full albums only shows your racism. That you aren't willing to give examples of your favorites shows that you probably listen to white boy rock, just as single-dependent whether or not you're willing to admit it.
