ITT: Post your Controversial Music Opinion.

I'll start- Blur produced far better music than Oasis in the 90s. Liam and Noel Gallagher don't compare to Damon Albarn in musical quality, originality or talent.

I can see why people maybe don't like it, because the songwriting is very un-Oasis. It has the most input from the other band members than any other album I believe, and even Noel's songs don't have that usual goofy edge to them.

Despite this, it's amazing how the album works as a loose concept album. The psychedelic sound works better than even their early stuff. Liam sounds great on it, maybe better than he ever did after sounding like crap on the last two albums. It toes the line of sounding angry but doesn't quite cross into an embarrassing tantrum. The guitars just sound great—but again, un-Oasis.

>>55036787

Interesting. Yeah, I wouldn't say that it's a bad album really, I think "The Turning", "Shock of the Lightning", "I'm Outta Time", "To Be Where There's Life" (A fucking awesome song really), and "The Nature of Reality" are the good songs, whereas I think the other ones lack the spirit of the band. BUT, if you're able to appreciate as an un-Oasis album, that's pretty cool, but even putting it in that context, I couldn't say that it even rivals the first three in terms of great songs.

Britney Spears- Hit me Baby One More Time is the greatest Pop song of all time. You give that song to any female artist and its a hit. The chorus, verses, beat, combine perfectly to create the Pop Song which can never be matched in its own genre. Sit down, and listen to that song with an open mind and you'll realise how perfect that song is.

They'll never hit that greasy pop charm of the first three again. The closest they come here is Shock of the Lightning, which is, well, electrifying. Definitely one of their best singles.

I know it's a trope, but its strength really is that the songwriting is more "mature". It hits a snag in the middle of the album, but when you listen to the first 4 Noel songs and then realize the last four on the album might actually be better... that's when I realized I loved the album.

I don't really like the Pop genre but that song is perfect in every way for its genre.

Just off the top of my head but Apologize by Timbaland and One Republic is a great pop song, Here Without you by Three Doors Down, Take on Me by A-Ha, Mr Blue Sky by ELO, When Doves Cry by Prince, Don't you Want me by Human League. But imo the best pop song other than Hit Me Baby One More Time is Fantasy by Mariah Carey.

Its such a varied genre and so big its hard to think of essential songs but they're just some I can think of which are indisputably great songs.
