How do I get over this feel?

because if you loved music you would be writing good music by now because you would turn to every possible resource to make it happen. you'd read books, you'd talk to people, you'd play more instruments, you'd've learned how to sing by now, you'd thought out some original gimmicks, you'd've done this and that.

and you wouldn't give up (after you've done all that). but you did none of that and its probably too late to start now so you actually gave up a long time ago because you don't know what it's like to actually love music. don't mean to sound condescending but it's true.

Everybody feels this way at some point: your unoriginal, self-indulgent, bad, getting nowhere in terms of writing good music for yourself. But notice how it is always the same thing when you think like this? There's never a truly original reason why your bad, failing, etc. you just are. So these thoughts are truly the unoriginal bullshit, and the thing your doing is actually better than that. Now if your not happy (which is different) with your songs etc. write some new ones, or try playing a key/way that you don't normally.

The thing is, when I started with this band in my city (4-5 years ago), was great, now we are superbros and all. But in all this years I grew on 'edgier', experimental music; meanwhile they stayed in his comfort zone (entry level indie rock, btw).

So, as much as I try to push them to my tastes, they keep composing this Arctic Monkeys pseudo-covers, and that makes me sick... they dont even want to improve on their instruments, while Im always training on new techniques and stuff (im the drummer).

if i were in that predicament, i would make connections since i'd already be in the scene and just jam with other people for fun until i find the right matches. also, viciously try to network in the business. maybe steal a song just to your band having more faith in you so they'd give more creed to your ideas, then drop the stolen song as soon as you can because actually benefitting from stolen shit is despicable, but just use it as a manipulative tool. idk, man. write your own shit. learning how to sing is always valuable, too. you could not go wrong with that.

jam with other people and make new friends. its the only way out. make friends with your fans too before you go solo so you don't end up starting from board one.

but, sometimes, starting from step one is what we need. maybe you need it. if you're serious about music, maybe you need some time alone to prepare yourself to re-enter and shine.

What Im trying to implement in my band's sound is more trip-hoppy, jazzy stuff. Im still into indie, but I would like to make ''chilier''. Karate is a good example, or Sharks Keep Moving, Morphine, etc...

I know, in /mu/ thats not edgier, but for my band, it is...

Aaaand, on the other hand, I definitely want to make things like The Necks or Huntsville. But thats way harder to find people...

>> No.54924772

>>54924720
Well I mean as a drummer you have huge influence over the band if you want to go a bit more jazzy. Maybe put a little bit of swing into a few songs and see what happens?

As far as solo stuff, you could probably learn guitar pretty quick if you put the effort in.
