ITT: albums time will vindicate
tfw modest mouse will never have the same garage sound they had on LCW and long drive...
>>54878014Same thing happened with TM&A upon release. Now everyone jizzes their pants for it. To say nothing of the nationwide reception to their first two "holy" albums that the 16 year olds here love.Eventually the "horrible new shit" will become the "cool old shit".
did you see them on that ozzie guys talk show last night? I just caught the tail end.
what did you guys like about the album? i only listened to it all the way through once, but i dont know, nothing really caught me. i guess i liked that one line about the air falling out of the car or whatever it was, but overall it felt like a pretty mediocre album without the lyrics and stuff i loved about stuff like interstate 8 and the lonesome crowded west.
>>54878014It's really not hard to imagine somebody discovering Modest Mouse through this album and being completely absorbed in it. It's a solid album that works about as well as any Modest Mouse album does. Yeah, it's not as good as the others but I still listen to all the Modest Mouse albums. Another one that's about as good as the others to add to my rotation of Modest Mouse albums is welcome and fine.
>>54878014The biggest problem re: their last three albums is that the production is too clean and polished, like Coldplay or late U2. In a word, it's sterile, but the songs are still there (especially on We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, which imo is at least on par with This Is a Long Drive..., and, while not as good, I like it almost as much as Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon & Antarctica)
>>54878014i love it already
>>54878240Same stuff I liked about other Modest Mouse albums, that's all. I wish there were a few longer, meandering songs, and it jumps around a bit in terms of pacing, but overall there's some great lyrics and great jams. Really looking forward to Part 2.
>>54878255"Spitting Venom" from We Were Dead is one of their all-time best songs
It will never be as good as We Were Dead or Good News.
it's not the masterpiece its hardcore fans make it out to be, but it's definitely a very solid pop album which was unfairly shit on by critics.
>>54878392Are you joking? I think you need to go back and listen to Good News. That album is complete fucking gash. This is coming from someone who loves Float On, so don't even try that argument.
>>54878374pretty much. Only one song over 6 minutes...? "The Ground Walks" is great, maybe my favorite, but I wish more had that amount of indulgence (mainly "Tortoise..." which I think could have been amazing if it were longer; it's still good, though).
>>54878887THIS
>>54878887Agree completely. I would've loved Tortoise to be a 10 minute jam a la Trucker's Atlas. "So let's walk off!" would be the perfect transition into a long hypnotic drum and bass session
>>54878724remember when this was a meme
>>54878035>wanting them to do the same thing for two decadesNigga, they didn't remove those generic albums from existence. Just keep listening to those if you want to remain in the past.
