I'm broke, but i want to make music, i have theory nailed but i need a midi controller, i'm thinking about an akai lp25 is there any alternative in that price range?
i can spend a bit more than the akai's price

That one is decent

Go to goodwill and find s full sized keyboard s and then buy a USB te midi cable.

doesn't really matter what you go for in that price range, lp25 is fine.

But it depends on what you need the controller for. I'd argue that it has very limited use. You can't really "play" much on it because there's so few keys. I would suggest saving a bit more and getting something with assignable knobs and/or faders for around 100 bucks

Akai MPK mini Mk2 has about everything you need to comfortably put in data. alesis v25 is even a little cheaper (80€ where I live) but also has less knobs.
If you want something to really play music on then it really depends on your level. If you don't have any music instrument experience (and don't intend to put effort and time into learning one) then 25 keys is absolutely fine. You don't need to be a keyboarder/pianist to make music with you computer.
If you want to learn how to play keyboard then at least get 61 keys and spend as much money on the keyboard as you can.
if you want to learn piano then you'll need to spend at least 500 bucks or so for a digital piano with midi out.

That's the best in the price range without a doubt, get it. Really solid controller

Just record with a microphone, that's all you need and it's easier to do lofi right instead of trying to sound professional and failing miserably.

Woah buddy, it sounds like you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what midi controllers do.

I had one for a while, the keys were pretty small, it annoys a bit after a while, try to go with full sized keys (this implies more octaves too) or, as stated in the thread, knobs / pads. Sadly with the price range you cant get both.

I had lp8, it sucked so hard. Pads are too strong + usb broke after 1 year.

holy fuck, exactly the same as me. i come from playing a full 88 key piano so i can't bare to use just 25 shitty unweighted keys, so im getting the lpd8 too.
still learning ableton tho.

ALSO, does anyone know if recording myself playing piano then using ableton pitch to midi thing works as a makeshift midi keyboard?

launchkey 25 mini for $15 more

has drum pads, knobs, pause and play, etc.

>> No.54834314

You don't need any hardware to make music.

nobody knows except you. maybe you should get into using fl studio before buying a controller to better understand what you need.
personally I wouldn't use a controller with less than 8 knobs - less is hardly more comfortable than using your mouse because you have to switch the assignments all the time.

>>54833515
I have an lpd8 and the pads are horrible.
if you want faders and knobs get the korg nanokontrol. super cheap for what it has to offer. the nanokontrol actually saves me a lot of time

it's so easy to sound professional in 2015 tho

yesterday i played with a Akai APC 40 MKII and i had a great time throwit some loops, but i realized is not comofrtable nough to make drum patterns with it.

My friend just recomended me the akai mini mk2 but in that review i saw the pads are better with lpd8 dont know. Im not closed only with lpd8, but its just what i know.

You can make readable music with a pen and paper, it doesn't mean that it's the most optimal way to do it.,

>> No.54835181

>>54835117
just try it out

the pads require a massive amount of strength. either you go full velocity or none. playing dynamically is completely out of the question.
nowhere near the feeling of an mpc or alike.
actually I feel I'm better of triggering notes on my pc keyboard keys than on the lpd8. they have haptic feedback at least lol

the pads on apc aren't velocity sensitive. they're for triggering samples in live's session view, not for playing drums

>> No.54835246

>>54835162
well actually, writing notes by hand is the optimal way of writing down notes in the creative process

a midi controller doesn't help with anything except that it speeds up your workflow if you know what you're doing
