you can reinforce a block of wood with other scavenged materials, and frets aren't THAT hard to install. You probably won't wind up with an adjustable truss rod, but it's really not too bad.

Unless you manage to stick something in the tiny socket there is basically no risk of electrocution. Also the oils on your hand killing the hot glass is a myth. Tubes don't get hot enough to boil you hand oils. They do get hot so burning yourself is a light risk.

European music tends to characterize the most intense parts of a song with ugly, loud chords that destroy a melody intentionally to evoke a sense of physical power, while South American composers will weave the most intense parts into the melody by having a variation on it which invokes a sense of emotional power.

Why do so many guitars come stock with EMGs?

They sound like shit and compress your tone. The only genre of music where they work well is tech death and maybe djent. I don't understand why Jackson and ESP throw them in so many of their otherwise good guitars. Same thing with floyds. Very few people use floyds for anything worthwile, most people don't even use them, they just like the tuning stability of a locking nut which can be achieved pretty easily without the potential nightmare of a floating bridge.

Ibanez RGs are like the rice rockets of guitars. They are a lot of fun to fuck around on, great upper fret access, fast as hell, and pretty well built, but i'd never dream of taking one into the studio, they just sound like shit. I've played the 2000 dollar Prestige models too and they have that same thin tinny sound and very little sustain.

Hear is mine. It's an RG471 with an Ash body. I put a Duncan SH11 in there to tame some of the tin sound. I wrote most of my bands new album on this guitar, but I saved up and bought an LTD EC-1000 when it came time to track it.

not really. Pickups just boost certain frequencies and control the output, the tone is generated by the player and their style of pick attack and the guitar, including the scale, strings and wood the amp then picks all that up and converts it into the final product.

These are the 490R and 490T, right? Just checked, apparently while it's possible to remove the cover, you'll have to detach a big blob of solder, then careful remove some of the wax they use of wax potting the pickup and the putting some pickup cloth around the wires.

I wouldn't recommend it. Just buy a new pickup cover online and put that on the uncovered pickup you want.

It's not even something super hard to notice. If you have ever replaced the pickups on a guitar or have ever watched a pickup comparison on Youtube you'd realize how they're most of your tone.

Even if you believe that tonewoods make an effect, it will still be a extremely minor one compared to the pickups. Technique, strings, pots and bridge make a difference as well, but it's still extremely minor compared to the pickups.

This reminds me of the guy on reddit who had a Gibson Les Paul (Standard or Traditional) and then bought a 335 with the same pickups and got disappointed enough to create a thread asking why both guitars sounded the same and how he couldn't understand why that was happening.

Yeah, I believe tonewoods (especially regarding hollow/solid bodies) can make an extremely, almost unnoticeable difference sometimes. I also believe bridge, strings and pick play a more considerable role, but pickups are still responsible for your main tone.

I know how that is. In my youth I was into visual kei, old ass shit like Black Sabbath contemporaries, and other more distant genres more than whatever the longhaired teens in black shirts listened to. The metal community tries its best to be welcoming and monolithic, but it's so divergent and full of kids at this point that you just can't do that anymore.

I haven't quite gotten what I want to do down, but there's enough metal involved to drive away popfags, but not enough in any given example I've played for metalfags to latch onto. I like the drone and the riff, melodic passages and the growling vocals, but not to the point where I want all of those things at once. Having what I listen to and what I want to play be so different doesn't help.

I really know the feel when metalists are the closest to what you want to do, but none of them go about it from an outside perspective and look at the things you do. I hate to say that a lot of them are also too stuck in the genre. Even the progfags are all babbys first 10 minute jackoff solo. It was a part of what made me trade in my shitty starter electric rig for a nice acoustic. A very small part, but still a deciding factor.

have you checked out Opeth? they really do a good job of blending great songwriting, riffs, melody, growl vocals, acoustic parts, proggy stuff. or Anciients are somewhat similar and they're fuckin awesome. They do all of those things but not all at once and not to an extent that it gets boring.

>Having what I listen to and what I want to play be so different doesn't help.
I know this feel man. I was there for a long time, but like I said I just started writing the music that I would want to listen to and it all came together. Over the last year I've written almost 4 albums worth of material and the last album I wrote, when I play it or listen to it I can't help but think "this is awesome, this is exactly the music I want to hear. I'd pay money for this." in the least egotistical way possible. I'm just so happy with the fact that I'm finally making the music that I've always wanted to make. It took damn near 10 years of practicing, learning and writing to get here but fuck it just is the most rewarding thing. All good things in time right?

>I really know the feel when metalists are the closest to what you want to do, but none of them go about it from an outside perspective and look at the things you do. I hate to say that a lot of them are also too stuck in the genre

He kept saying that it didn't fit the rest of the song (ended up being proggy sludgy stoner metal). It was really disappointing to hear that the only person I'd ever been mostly on the same page with music was so not on the same page as me. He was just so fixated on writing cool riffs and metal stuff that he was totally not open to outside influences. He didn't want to write slow parts or clean/acoustic passages, just riff riff riff.

But that experience has really led to me saying fuck it, I'm gonna write the music I want to write the way I want to write it and it's been one of the best, most rewarding decisions I've ever made. It'll take time but you'll get there mah nigga.

cool ideas, but that guitar sound is intended? Because it's sounds like it's pure amp without a cab. Also learn into drumbot (ezdrummer, addictive whatever), it's really easy and when you learn into midi programming you'll have LOTS of options with other virtual instruments.

if you can't use studio monitors when check ATH-M50, Nolly uses them and his productions are godlike

The strap pin is a screw with a fancy washer around it. Moving one will only leave a small hole.

Notice that SG's which can be imbalanced with a heavy neck have their front pin on the back where the neck hits the body. Strats have their pin clear out on the horn making a wider strap area of support.

What bass do you have?

thanks man. Unfortunately the only thing I have to record at this point is a shit-tier digitech RP355 through a usb. so I run my pedalboard into the digitech and plug that into the amp. and I run the digitech into my laptop. It's cheap and sounds like poop but it's all I have at the moment and my main goal has been to just get it recorded so I have the ideas down and don't forget anything. as soon as I get my recording gear I'm gonna have the wonderful task of rerecording 4 albums worth of material ;_; I'll definitely check out the drum programs though. I'm a terrible drummer though so I've always been hoping I can just find a decent drummer to make up some shit on his own. It looks like you could gain a few inches moving the pin to the neck heel where it meets the body. Maybe hold the guitar with the strap and find a point where it would most comfortable that the pin should actually be. This my entail attaching it to the back of the neck where it may become an annoyance when playing around your 17th fret, idk it's a give and take.

Once you've found a good balance point, you'll need a drill bit. Use a bit that is more narrow than the threads of the screw. This is so that they catch on the way in of course. Find a removable counter sink for your bit if you can't be trusted to drill the the appropriate depth. Maybe even install a proper washer on the screw to hold your strap to the guitar and prevent future mishaps. I found some locking washers that match my other hardware and also worked with the existing pins, but anything will do.

And on top of that very good amp simulations for playing live, so for 400$ it's a steal (but cab impulses are fucking shit and it's better to recab it with VSTs like Recabinet when recording)

By the way, that's objectively a better top than my old blue LPs had (see pic), so I guess I really can't complain.

>>54824950
Yeah, my girlfriend is also a heavy sleeper at night but I know I would wake her up if I cranked the DRRi. The amp is 6 feet away from her and there's a concrete wall in between, but still.

Speaking of bedroom volumes, I did the DRRi mod where you remove the tube from the channel 1 and replace the 12AT7 V6 tube for a 12AX7, making the amp break up a lot sooner than it normally would, but it's still way too fucking loud until it starts to distort. Previously it would start to break up at volume 6, now it starts at 3, but that's still enough to have my neighbors call the police if I do it at 11pm (current time here).

I suppose there's really nothing I can do unless I buy an attenuator, right?

Every modern should really come with a headphone out by default nowadays...

Witchcraft, the Sword, Orodruin. It's that point where old school hard rock and metal meet chuuni D&D wizard shit in a way that the music stands out and it isn't so serious it ends up corny. The obsession with brutality elsewhere and the mindless wank of prog got old. Reminds me of the old goth scene in a way.

I've also been digging through India learning what they have to say about building certain moods. It's been a lot easier than listening to all kinds of traditional music from everywhere and trying to figure it out song by song. Having an instinctive sense of things is important, but being able to verbalize it into something like 'raga desh' and know what makes it what it is is just better.

It's made me hate how much western music theory either tries to be purely explanatory to the point of being sterile or is intentionally obfuscated with vocabulary from 6 different languages, none of which are english, just to say that I sounds good after V.

Oh, I see. This is the schematic of the original '65 Deluxe Reverb, but since mine is a reissue I believe they share the same schematic.

All I have done is completely remove the tube from the V1 position (channel 1), and replaced the 12AT7 V6 tube with a 12AX7. I believe that since that part of the circuit is biased for a different tube, that's what caused the 12AX7 to break up sooner.

If any have any suggestions to reduce headroom even further I'd appreciate it.

One simple solution would be to throw a variac in front of your amp. This will bring your wall voltage down and has a tremendous effect on an amp's output and headroom. Less voltage isn't going to hurt any components, they will actually last longer in this operation. 5-15 volts less wall will make big drops in your supply voltage. Van Halen did this *cred*.

Make sure you're not using JJ 6v6 tubes. I've heard these are sort of a hybrid 6v6 and will give you the opposite of what you're going for.

You could swap your GZ34 for a 5y3. This may be too spongy for your goals, but idk.

Getting more techy.
The 6v6s could be run as triodes. This would be simply strapping the 470 screen resistors to the 6v6 plates rather than the 415 supply.

The 6v6 could be switched to cathode bias like in a 5e3 deluxe. You would disconnect your -35v supply and add a 250 5w resistor to the cathodes and a bypass cap to taste.

The 100k plate resistors could be either paralleled with added 100k resistors for more harmonic distortion OR the 100k plate resistors could be bumped up to 220k for more voltage swing and harder clipping.

You could cascade in another gain stage. Simply send the lower pink circle on the wiper of the volume pot back to your normal channel and sever its tube grid connection via a switch. This would be a soft additional gain stage since passive tone stacks add a lot of attenuation. Bonus, both volumes would have function. You could also try adding two stages by sending the right side of that nearby .02 cap back to the normal channel. You could do this with the normal into the vibrato channel if you prefer.

That's it for me! Gotta go build a cab for my H&K 18 I fixed. Hope you can scheme up something cool, because modding is a cinch.
