How many ambient albums do you have? How many is too many? What makes an ambient album worth keeping?

I never revisit ambient albums.

if an ambient album makes you feel feels every time, you should keep it.

I think I have A LOT. What's important to me I guess is a singular experience, you be the judge, get listening to composers and jazz artists who've influenced the genre, listen to every kind of ambient from Nurse With Wound and Coil to Windy & Carl and Loren Mazzacane Connors, pretty soon it'll be easy for you to tell what's special enough to warrant repeated listens... Sidenote- not the biggest Caretaker fan to be completely honest so I'd say your decision was warranted

it's hard to call this "ambient" but Reduced definitely is and still makes me feel.

it felt situational. never felt like the right time or place to listen to it. maybe it fits your life better than it fit mine. had listened to it five times, and just wasn't feeling whatever it was that made me like it in the first place.

I have a few. Probably more Basinski that anyone really needs. Favorite lately is Brian Eno (i know.) Ambient II. Sat on a rise watching the sun set between two mountains while listening to it and spontaneously started crying. Don't have any great insight on how you know what to keep. somethings just ask to be played. others just call attention to themselves at the wrong time and you realize you're bored with them.

>How many ambient albums do you have?
85 albums, but I used to have like 200 until my harddrive crashed.
>How many is too many?
There's no such thing.
>What makes an ambient album worth keeping?
How well it's able to evoke an atmosphere and mood while still being low-key enough to fade into the background and lead to a beautiful "room-coloring".

Ultimae Records has some great ambient artists. I enjoy Solar Fields a lot, and have heard good things about Carbon Based Lifeforms. Aes Dana is solid as well.

this might be a little busy to be called ambient (it's probably glitch) but it really settles into a cool place for me

i've listened to it so many times

that track is burned into my consciousness at this point, i've listened to it so much.

Kiln is also great for those kinds of warm drone, though their pieces tend toward the short side

Sure; it's just not strictly drone ambient.

There is a lot of dub techno I would also consider ambient:
