I've noticed /mu/ never really pays attention to or gives real acclaim to music from funk, R&B, soul, blues, punk, jazz and reggae.

Can we make a thread with the best albums from any of these genres?

I wanna see more variation on this board.

Or neofolk, power metal, or industrial. But they don't get covered by Pitchfork so you don't know about them.

Not sure about Laibach, how about Death in June?

Neofolk has a lot of neonazi / fascist associations anyway - kind of turns me off. I guess I'm not edgy enough.

I don't know man I still listen to class Dave Brubeck. I mean I've noticed that there is a lot of cool swing electric that's pretty catchy (Dirty Honkers other various artist) which is very few that i can stand. Also are we allowed to talk about Progressive music?

Because 95% or more of /mu/ is white. Obviously not saying white ppl can't/don't enjoy those genres, but in terms of one's taste in music, it definitely makes a difference growing up with your parents' motown, funk and soul vs. your parents' classic rock and folk - especially in those formative years of your life.

and to stay on topic: pic related is a great reggae album

I guess. I didn't learn about Jazz until I was about 16, but I fell in love I'm white and my parents listen to Old metal/rock (black sabbath, Led zeppelin). I mean I did fall in love with it also these things aren't commercially successful. Also I feel like Jazz is something you need to see live to truly appreciate it.

I'm not going to pretend that word has any meaning, but 99% of the rap /mu/ discusses is written up on p4k and tnd - so it's pretty self-explanatory as to why

You guys ready to get into funk?

First there's the staple P-Funk group, Parliament.

Everyone's heard of the Commodores, but no one pays attention to this fantastic tune.

Jackie Mitoo, the keyboard king of reggae, dub, and ska did some funk and it was fantastic

Super underground garage funk group's magnum opus which sounds a lot like modern day Ratatat: Martinis - Hung Over

Another funk staple featuring some strange scatting

Clinton's stuff is more electronic and I don't much care for it but he's another P-Funker so it's great (He also helped out with and got a production credit on To Pimp A Butterfly)
