Hey guys. What're your opinions on good music that's just relaxing to listen to?
I outgrew angry music years ago, and I've been slowly finding artists that produce soothing/relaxing/mellow music, and I've found that I enjoy it. I also love stuff that's just fun funky jamming, but it's not my usual stuff.
What can you recommend for someone who enjoys Bonobo, Blackmill, Tycho, ODESZA, (specifically Summer's End, haven't listened to anything else yet), GRiZ, and C2C?
What kind of mellow and funky stuff do you jam to, /mu/?

Anything trip-hop:

Emancipator:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRgPIbSX1mg

Zero 7:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMq7j3weRys

i don't think this is quite trip-hop but it's chill nonetheless:

Tom Fire:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vaZ-zQotk8

House can be pretty chill too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUT6ytgluII

Basically anything posted by http://www.delicieuse-musique.com/

That Emancipator track was pretty good, I like that. I'll check out the full album on youtube, if it's there.
I skipped through the Zero 7 album and the Tom Fire track, and I listened to the Jesper Ryom in another thread, and while they absolutely are chill, they're not quite the groove I'm looking for. I'll check out that website here in a bit.

The chill/groovy stuff I like is similar to these tracks. It's stuff that makes you nod your head to the beat almost unconsciously.
Bonobo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZbgyKJkHxQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hIQDavRD54

As far as the funky stuff goes, it's just got to be fun to listen to.

C2C

GRiZ

Based on those last two tracks, definitely Gramatik:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwFe9KWPItM

Yeah, the chill/groovy stuff you're looking for is definitely trip-hop. Look for similar artists to Emancipator or Bonobo on last.fm

I've always thought of blockhead as instrumental hip hop. Really his 2014 collab with that rapper solidified that opinion for me (its good though so if u haven't heard it, check it)

prefuse 73 and daedelus

though prepare yourself for a hugely needed lack of quality control, but a few wicked and edgy tunes

I've listened to a bit of Gramatik when it appears on the GRiZ playlists on youtube, but I've only heard those few songs. I'll listen in more depth soon.
I knew about the Chillstep genre from the rateyourmusic genre page (fucking long read up to that point, and I gave up after I found Blackmill, probably should go back sooner or later) but I never knew the term Trip-hop. I'll look into the genre. Thanks for the recs!
I also appreciate you not being a stuck-up cunt, like quite a number of /mu/ posters seem to be. Thanks for that.

>>54589582
I skipped through a few songs by Moshimoss, and maybe I just picked the wrong songs, but they all seemed to be too mellow, almost sad music. Is there anything particularly upbeat?

Out of all that, I only know Massive Attack, Nujabes, Air, and Bonobo. I guess we can add Emancipator to the list now, too. Thanks for this, I'll save it and use it.

you have a pretty similar taste to my own

Something really mellow and maybe more acoustic than what you're used to is Musette. Just about the most relaxing music I know.

I think you're also gonna love anything downtempo.

Morcheeba

Phontaine

If you like GRiZ and C2C, you're also gonna like Pretty Lights

I'm digging Phontaine through fdel, those are really nice. I've queued them up on youtube to go through an album or two tonight and tomorrow. Pooldore is cool, and so far I'm loving Akshin Alizadeh!
It's good that I don't work tomorrow, or I'd likely forget to explore most of these artists.

I rarely ever browse /mu/, and I always thoroughly read the catalog when I do, and this post smells highly of meme-cancer, based on the number of Death Grips threads currently on /mu/. It's almost like YLYL threads on /b/.
That being said, I've never listened to Death Grips, and so I should do you the courtesy of actually listening to them before I judge your post.

Check out flume, cashmere cat, trippy turtle, drops by jungle you might enjoy very groovy hip hop style, as for chillstep i would recommend phaleah, synkro, or anything that mr suicidesheep posts on youtube. Nice to see a post like this.

Math/Prog Rock

This is funky jamming at its finest and also pretty mellow. I expected more metal influence, but its actually just perfect summer chill jams.

OP here. There's been a lot of good suggestions in this thread, and I thank you all for contributing.
Except that Death Grips troll, fuck him.
Anyways, I always feel like I'm the last person to find cool new stuff, and even if these artists aren't releasing new stuff in 2015, it's all new to me, and most of it is new to the friends I've shared it with. I'm heading to sleep soon, but if the thread's still going when I wake up, I'll be happy to spend the day browsing the new suggestions. I've made a notepad file with the names of every artist mentioned so far, and it'll take me a while to work through them.

>>54597424
My preferences run towards the higher-energy-side of mellow, where the music is of a much lower energy level than, say, metal, but is higher energy than a goddamn lullaby. I like the stuff that makes you smile as you listen to it because it puts off good vibes. I like stuff you can bob your head to. I like instruments being used in non-traditional ways, like saxophone in electronic music, just because sax gives the normally repetitive EDM some jazzy feeling to it.
It's real easy to use buzzwords to describe the music I like, but that's exactly what they're for. If I say I like chill, jazz, funky, mellow, comfy music, people can understand what I mean without me going into any long spiel. After all, I used buzzwords earlier and got some fantastic results.

G'nite all, thanks again, and keep jammin'.
Fuck you, Death Grips guy.
