In other words, in just over one week's time, To Pimp a Butterfly has accrued almost as many ratings as Section.80 has in almost four years. Shit's out of control. Anyway, I saw it dip down to a 4.11 briefly before being bumped back up to a 4.12. The highest I saw it get recently was 4.14. That was back when it had just over 2,000 ratings. Yep. Shit's crazy. Unprecedented levels of critical acclaim going its way. I enjoy it.

Just listened to it but I don't even think it's better than GKMC. It has higher highs but lower lows. Some shit is just hit or miss as far as lyrics go. Some parts were also a failed attempt at funk. Like it was trying to imitate funk as a stereotype instead of actually being funk.

I'd give it an 89 and GKMC a 91.

Listening to it again currently. The highs stand out more but so do the lows. Something like "shit won't change unless you get up and wash yo ass nigga" just kills the immersion for me. It'd be fine as a one time thing but it just repeats and repeats. Also that girl saying "we want the funk" over and over just grates my ears. I might have to delete For Free soon as well.

I know it's only my second listen but that's why I bring this up. I don't remember feeling this way about GKMC at all when I first heard it (o even now). Kendrick has definitely matured as far as piecing songs together goes and the production is great but some parts just don't do it for me. I can appreciate him being ambitious but that's all I can really say about the lows.
