Who the next /mu/ hype artist is really anyone's guess. But I think it's pretty evident that this artist will market their music with some sort of lame gimmick that everyone buys into, a gimmick that will ultimately become stale and suddenly no longer hip once the artist receives semi-mainstream attention. Pitchfork/Fantano will of course have a huge influence on the artist's /mu/ popularity, so I guess pay attention to the next underground act they pick up on from seemingly out of nowhere and subsequenly overhype and you'll have your answer. This artist will of course have a reasonable amount of meme value tied to it upon peak /mu/ popularity, but that should already be obvious.

Only OF artist we gave a shit about after that point was Earl.I would say Kanye would make a better fit for that proposed 2010-2012 slot, but /mu/ was on the Death Grips dick from the moment Exmilitary dropped. I was seeing multiple threads about the tape as far back as May 2011. The two trends were practically contemporaneous.
