Best Aphex Twin album GO
>>54509900SAW II by a mile, but hey that's just me. Nice dub dubs.
>>54509900ambient vol. 2
I went back and listened to his discography. Most of it is kinda shit actually, particularly early stuff. SAW II was probably his best though.
RDJ Album
For me it's Drukqs without question.
>>54509944thisbest album, worst cover
>>54510060>worst cover>not Syro
Anyone who says Drukqs is a butthurt Pitchfork drone
>>54510060yeah, why does he do this shitthe Window Licker video almost made me stop listening to him
>>54510086Chris Cunningham was behind the videos, not Aphex. Also>not liking the Windowlicker vid
>>54510075Anyone have any alternative covers for Syro by the way?
>>54510085What's Pitchfork got to do with Drukqs?
SAW 2
>>54509900Fucker, get your head out of your ass and listen to some Venatian Snares. He's obviously better.
>>54510125yeah I don't like it, it was disgusting and the song isn't even that good
>>54510156Vsnares is memebreaks.
>>54510174>disgustingyou mean funny as hell
>>54510203No, I mean disgusting.
Unless he releases another three hour ambient album I don't see him topping this.
>>54510234what's disgusting about it?
>>54510234you should get a sense of humor man
>>54510174It's supposed to be. Cunningham does that a lot. The Rubber Johnny video is way more disturbing though.
>>54510174It's one of the best techno songs of all time though.
I'm sure he's still got it in him.Poop out the poison Rich, POOP OUT THE POISON!
>>54510320That video was just stupid.
>>54509944Analord series is his best work, but if we're only considering full lengths, then this.
It doesn't get any better than Selected Ambient Works 85-92, but almost everything he's released is excellent.
>>54510284Has anyone read the 33 1/3 book btw?
>>54510362So's your mom. >rect!
>>54510060I think it's hella cool to be honest. I even made my own version of it.
Technically released under AFX
>>54509984You can't call a discography "kinda shit" without explaining why or offering alternatives, ya dingus.
>>54510392christ
>>54510403>You can't call a discography "kinda shit" without explaining whybecause it isn't entirely shit
>>54510395I want that binder unf!
Track-for-track, Rushup Edge is honestly one of his best releases. Not a moment of filler on it.
>>54510441Thanks for the discourse. I'm sure you were great at discrete
>>54510455fuck yeshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lV7kiG5nO8
It's really solid and elaborate, I agree
>>54510392print it out and mail it to him
>>54510489great at wot m8?
SAW II is my favourite as well, though I don't listen to it for the same reasons as I listen to 85-92, ICBYD or drukQs.>>54510075I think Syro has a great cover actually. It's funny, informative, minimal yet unusual, and the typography looks good.>>54510364>Analord series is his best workI only have Chosen Lords, is it worth getting the whole thing? I remember trudging through the five Analogue Bubblebath releases was a bit of a chore, given how spotty they are.>>54509984I wouldn't say it's "kinda shit", but you really have to sort the wheat from the chaff with most of his releases. I'm very much an album person, but in his case I think making your own playlists/cherrypicking tracks is better.
>>54510680>I only have Chosen Lords, is it worth getting the whole thing?Absolutely. Chosen Lords misses out a lot of top tier tracks. Analords 02, 07 and 08 are the best EPs imo.
>>54510680>Syro has a great cover actually. It's funnyWhat sort of mental gymnastics have you done to find Syros cover funny?
>>54510680>wheat from the chaffI've never heard that adage before. Thanks.I'm going to agree with you too. I think SAW85-92, RDJ and Syro really stand well on their own, but considering how erratic his other works and releases are you're right about cherrypicking being your best bet.
shouldn't even be a contest
>>54510789I think he means funny in a tongue-in-cheek, elbow-in-the-gut kind of way.Syro's album art is a receipt for the cost of the album, "per capita." I think it's clever.
>>54510085but p4k hated drukqs
Syro. Honestly. And this is from someone who listens to a lot of RDJ's other monikers like Bradley Strider.
>>54509900Rushup Edge
>>54510486This post is good. Seriously, the Tuss is awesome. We all knew it was Aphex Twin just too good to be him.
>>54510496>>54510364>>54510395How do you guys deal with not having the gorgeous binder?
>>54510886Well I don't listen to Analords, and I'm more of an Autechre person, so that helps a lot.
>>54510886I mean it sounds just as good on CD, the packaging is cool though
Well if there's one thing I've learned from this thread it's that I should listen to Rushup EdgeRight now I'm listening to a youtube compilation of some of the tracks RDJ released earlier this year. It's pretty goodhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-3Gd4_w5RQ
i care because you doambient works 2 got me into him thoughi remember a friend linking me windowlicker not long after it's releasethought it was totally lame and uninterestinglove it now amazing how time changes you
>>54510372I've had it on my computer for a long time, but I've never gotten around to reading it. I probably should, since it's my favorite ambient album in the world.
>>54510680>is it worth getting the whole thing?Try this. If you like it, you'll enjoy the rest.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsUUviefQSM&list=PLF185FAA5F930EA32&index=1
>>54510886digital
>>54511084great example
>>54511059>amazing how time changes youTotally. I hated Aphex Twin at first. I thought SAW85-92 was garbage when I first heard it. Then I decided Pulsewidth was all right. Then Xtal...then Green Calx clicked. And now it's all good.
>>54510789It's full of information nobody would have asked about (like the price of the croissants for some press conference), presented in a seemingly straightforward but completely inefficient way (unordered, each line after the other like a receipt ticket, on an unusually large multiple-panel digipak that's only printed on one side). The whole thing is at the same time clever and completely ridiculous.
>>54511059>>54511196am i the only one who liked aphex from the first time i heard it?
>>54511233First album I listened to was SAW 85-92. First electronic album I listened to. Upon first listen I was like "I can dig this." By the end of the week, I was hooked.
>>54510771>>54511084Thanks!>>54511004Rushup Edge is quite solid, it could have been released as AFX.
most if not all aphex twin is outdated nowprove me wrong
>>54511196Jesus you sound like me. The same exact order of liking SAW 1 lol...
>>54510372I've read it three times now, but have since lent it to a friend. It doesn't provide amazing insight, but it was a great read. Weidenbaum does a good job explaining where this album sits in the context of other electronic music releases, the club/rave scene, and in the context of ambient music up until then (all very helpful for me, was born a year after this album came out). The book's like $12 bucks, I really recommend picking it up if you're a fan of RDJ or the album.
>>54511271Rushup Edge was practically Aphex material, I thought.
>>54511279I don't need to prove you wrong, you need to prove yourself right. We don't have the burden of proof because we aren't the one making a claim.
>>54511335It is Aphex Twin material under another guise. Seriously the production on Rushup Edge is on par with Aphex Twin. He also had the one solo song on the yamaha piano which is extraordinarily rare so everyone knew it was him lol.
>>54511196>>54511286>no mention of Thaoh come on! that's one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard.
>>54511365it sounds like generic bumtiss *now*
>>54511394>>54511394THA is amazing! Was weird to me first when I was a Aphex Twin noob but seriously SAW 1 is perfect for me. Literally every song I just love.
>>54511411his music is way too diverse to use such a specific generalization.
>>54511411If you only want to see it like that, yeah it is. I think the riffs and chord progressions are what make it, though. I mean, if you think about it in a weird way, SAW85-92 has the potential to be mutated into SAWII if you remove all the drums and slice, reverb, and delay the shit out of it.
richard d james by an inch (over vol. 1)
Since this is aphex twin general, "Come On You Slags!" is hilarious, what is the sound clip from?>>54511196haven't got much out of that album still. that album, syro and computer controlled acoustics i'd have to say are my least favorite albums. time will tell though.
Donkey Rhubarb is amazing, don't see that posted a lot. Really solid EP.
>>54511553I like the cover too. The Philip Glass rendition of Icct Hedral is pretty goat.
>>54509900literally none, plebs
>>54510372can some upload the 33 1/3 book of SAW II to mega
>>54511644heh
>>54511644
>>54510042yes, exactly . Far ahead of all albums. SAW 2 is in another category altogether though
>>54510085I don't read anything pitchfork. drukqs is best
>>54511524I heard that the sample was taken from a porn film called Fantasia or something like that. I've heard that it's pretty surreal porn.
>>54511669I will if I find it. I have it somewhere on one of my three hard drives, but I don't know where.
>>54511669>>54512172Okay, that was pretty easy to find actually. Here you go.https://mega.co.nz/#!kxIymaBY!RwZKxhf7gQDzs6ni-s1JETqYUl7Q3hkerPEzOAqSg28>33 1/3: Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Volume II by Marc Weidenbaum
>>54512236Thank you, kind anon. It means a lot.
>>54512236thank you thank you :)
>>54510147this is the proper cover for the digital version>>54510060you know richard painted the ICBYD cover himself right? that makes it like a million times better imo
>>54509900DURQKUS
>>54510455>unfWhat this means?
SAW IIDrukqs coming in at second
>>54512885That something is extremely fuckable. Or otherwise just really nice.
>>54510455nah you don't, they're really pretty shit quality.
>>54511196I loved some tracks like Xtal and Windowlicker already from the very start of first time hearing Aphex Twin but it took a longer time to be able to appreciate any of his albums as a whole
>>54511279His sound, except for some of the ambient stuff and maybe Windowlicker is very dated at this point. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy it though
> you realize the SAW II cover isn't actually a photo of a sunset cutting through treesI couldn't have been the only one, right?
>>54513067it was confirmed on watmm a while back that it's actually an etching on an old leather bag of richard's
>>54513067you now realize the sphere in syro's cover is of a color that is perfectly between green and yellow in such way that a human can't tell whether it's green or yellow
>>54510886>analord 10>afx
>>54513067I've always thought it was a sandstone or adobe wall with the Aphex logo etched onto it.
>>54513067I always thought it looked like the Aphex logo engraved onto rusted metal. The whole record makes me think of old abandoned industrial structures.
Is there a pastebin or mega link of all the new AFX stuff on the soundcloud? thx guise
>>54513790Just download it on Soundcloud like the rest of us did.Or go here; this folder contains the two tracks that were removed from the Soundcloud page:https://mega.co.nz/#F!Ph1VSTCC!xe4rIy3LsMib2R-Ppg7D2Q
>>54513940>https://mega.co.nz/#F!Ph1VSTCC!xe4rIy3LsMib2R-Ppg7D2Qcool thx what are all the other songs? way more than two here
>ctrl+f>no melodies from marswhat
>>54514082It's an unfinished leak though.
>>54514027This has all of the songs, but two of the ones in the folder aren't on the Soundcloud page. Those songs are Girl/Boy Dark Version and Red Calx.
>>54514147u da man man
he just posted some new comments replies on soundcloud, first activity in 17 days... could more tracks be coming?
>>54509944plebs will fight this
