This is the fault of the audience more than the artists really. This is what a lot of people want and I don't think /mu/ realizes that. Theres a huge segment of the population that doesn't want to hear the typical themes of rap and other popular music because they don't reflect their daily lives at all. Working hard, Drinking beer, driving trucks, chasing the opposite sex at the bar, getting laid (but not in crass, pornographic level explicitness) falling in and out of love, nostalgia, being rural and proud - these are themes that deeply resonate with Americans that are not being addressed elsewhere.
Yeah they're pretty insipid but really you got to admit they send a better message than that being sent by the vast majority of rap |
