It feels like a record that should have been made long after grime peaked, rather than right at the start. It's far more introspective and measured than grime has ever been before or since, even the fact that he manages to sustain a consistent atmosphere throughout a full-length album sets it apart in a genre that has never really benefited from the album format.

>>54462893Yeah haven't really done much research but from what I seem to remember a thread about grime where most people, mainly UK ones, would have memories of grime being chipmunk voices and an overall cheeky or whatever attitude, being played on phones in the back of the bus. Like, childish.Dizzee was about 17 but definitely not childish in any way, he was on another level. Definitely introspective, more introspective than me at 17. Production really unique and fits his lyrics. I guess the fact this is a unique and outstanding album in a genre where there's not a lot of competition, so to speak, has some sort of romantic value to it.I actually got into this through a list of Danny Brown's favourite albums.

>>54462252The stupid thing is that in saying Dalek's stuff is better than Death Grips' stuff is a huge misinterpretation of the former's work. Dalek's albums from Negro Necro Nekros were politically charged as all hell right up to their last release "Untitled" back in '10. After listening to all their work, and going "It's better than X is a slap in the face to what Dalek was trying to do -- which he outlines in Abandoned Language. >>54462988I'd certainly argue that everything after Absence is ignored and that people know of Dalek for the wrong reasons.
