Alright /mu/, which is your favorite Kendrick album?http://strawpoll.me/3887620
Training Day mixtape.
obviously section 80 better than muh compton and muh niggers
>>54334009Butterfly is the patrician choice
>>54334009> you now realize Kendrick's 3 album streak is better than any hip hop artist's in history.
>>54334239Kek. Hell no.TCD, LR and Graduation is better.
>>54334239>people's instinctive travels>low end theory>midnight marauders>atliens>aqeumini>stankonianice try though
>>54334278nope
>>54334065There's no way that mixtape is anywhere near these 3 albums. Liking an old mixtape doesn't make you cool
>>54334278jesus christ please be b8
>>54334009too soon to give a proper answer
>GKMC that far ahead You gotta be fucking kidding me, TPAB is so obviously better
>>54334009y no love for section.80?
>>54334412section 80 hiipower
kendrick is a gimmick rapper who has offically run out of material
>>54334164I am le patrician

>>54337097holy fuck I'm dying
>>54337985It's like saying "I felt like GKMC was a lot more jazzier than TPAB"
>>54338221wat. elaborate how those two statements are even somewhat related
>>54338272Section.80 is objectively less personal than GKMC and TPAB
>>54334239Nah.>>54334278No, but not bad.>>54337745Those aren't a streak.>>54334299OutKast is the probably the best and ATCQ is another great contender. Probably the only person here with the slightest hint of knowing what they're talking about. If you're counting group and solo work in the same discography, then I'd say Straight Outta Compton, The Chronic, and The Chronic 2001. Or maybe 36 Chambers, Liquid Swords, and Wu-Tang Forever. But under the same name, it'd be ATLiens, Aquemini, and Stankonia.
>>54334239Roots?DYWM > Illadelph > TFATupac?MATW > AEOM > 7DTEric B & Rakim (depending on your opinion of let the rhythm hit 'em)PIF > FTL > LTRHE
>>54337745Op Doom came firstalso TMTYL is technically a different project but I'll let it slide
>>54338346Straight Outta and Chronic arent back to back either though bruh.

>>54338341>doesn't elaborateyeah, sure made me change my mind, anon. good job. use some examples or some shitprotip: saying "objectively" when talking about music makes you sound like a conceited douche.
>>54334299nice dubs, and probably the correct answer. Kendrick's streak is still good tho
>>54338405True I guess. TBH I don't care for NWA much without Ice Cube so I just sort of forgot.
>>54334412the album has been out for a day, give it time bruh
>>54337097hahahahahhaa oh my god
Gave it a few listens, only weak song for me at this point is momma.

GKMC will always be a 9/10 album for me. I love all of his albums but this is a masterpiece in my opinion.

>>54338624oh shit wrong reply>>54338545meant to reply to this
GKMC > TPaB >> S.80The songs on TPaB aren't as strong on their own as those on GKMC. TPaB runs together a little too much. The songs on GKMC are more distinctive and are still able to come together to form a cohesive whole.
>>54338659couldn't agree more my friend

>>54338659That's a solid opinion. Not sure about TPaB > S.80, it's too new and I guess I haven't listened to Section.80 for a while.
>>54338584ok (the blacker the berry overrated tho? rly??? shrug ok man)>BestHow Much a Dollar Cost>WorstFor Sale? >>54339197He's right though>>>/plebe/
TPAB, better or not, is an instant classic for me. Shows off all the smarts and fire we already knew Kendrick had and a fuckton of soul. Also production is way, way better than on Maad City
>>54338545Alright was probably my favorite
>>54339272>Also production is way, way better than on Maad CityI ded
This was better than all of Kendrick's albums
>>54339262No most of kanye's music is tame pop garbage that consists of bland lyrics about himself, and he's a mediocre rapper and you are most likely underage
>>54338477>>54334412A week. A month. A year. A lifetime. No matter how long you wait, GKMC will still be considered better. Why? Because it's better.
>>54339346GKMC is pandering to a hip hop audience from start to finish.TPAB actually has an original vision and executes it.
>>54339337Like I said, you're pleb territory. Kanye may be a worst rapper than kendrick but these albums sare just straight fire (and critics seem to be on our side). Also, this is hip hop, of course lyrics are about himself. It doesn't matter much though.>babbys first rap albumGo back to indie folk if you want 'deep' (read pretentious) lyrics my young fellow
>>54339305Who is this memester I keep seeing all over /mu/? Why is his name Faggot?
>>54339522It's Faggot bruh don't speak his name just R.I.P.
>>54334009Ex Military
>>54339502>Kanye may be a worst rapper than kendrick but these albums sare just straight fire (and critics seem to be on our side).ahhhh so i was being rusedgr8 b8 i guess
>>54339421Kendrick executed common hip hop conventions extremely well on GKMC, all while subverting many of them and telling a compelling story that is both personal and universal over the course of 12 fantastic, cohesive tracks. That's not nearly the same thing as "pandering to a hip hop audience." If anything, TPaB panders more than GKMC, just to a different audience, namely the jazzy hip hop FlyLo/ATCQ/Outkast/etc. audience. TPaB isn't nearly as original as you seem to think. That being said, both are great albums.
>>54338988Lupe's label made him butcher Lasers for the pop audience since they wouldn't release it otherwiseJust be happy he isn't on a major label anymore
>>54339197He is right, honestly.
>>54334278>Graduationreally nigga
>>54339701no, not even closego back to KTT pleb
am i the only one that tripped on the intro of These Walls, seeing thundercat, bilal and anna wise, and hearing the snapping fingers ?i genuinely thought it would be the colbert report song
>>54339421>original vision
>>54339647>mad cause he can't get kanye (I love GKMC more than any kanye btw)>doing an akward meme to try to get out of thisOk kiddo, right what I thought
Kanye gave birth to Kendrick's style fuck outta here.
>>54339775>>54339838Are Kanye fans really this delusional or am i being trolled?
>mfw this is the only good song kendrick hashttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9EOpCbYZxE
>>54339838>>54339775>actually trying to debate that kanye is close to kendrick in hip hopkek
>>54339926>>54339888How come /mu/ has become so plebeian since I left.We need a new CLT or the tourist back in here
>>54334278Why do people hate Graduation so much? It had a few weak tracks (Big Brother, Barry Bonds, Drunk and Hot Girls), but the other ones are great. To me it feels like Kanye's Black Album.
>>54339961simply ebin
>>54339961kanye's ghost writers live in struggle bars city
listening TPAB right now for the first time...was so pumped all day...gkmc smokes it so far.
>>54339961>kanye fan>labeling something as plebeian
>>54339915Worst song on GKMC
>>54340053>kendrick, surely also RTJ fan>thinking he has a patrician taste in hip hop
>>54339888>>54339926delusional? nigga do you even know what influence is? 808's and heartbreak is drake's sound. TCD brought back conscious rap way back in 2004 when it was all gangster rap (50 cent and g unit). dont even try to say kanye didnt build a foundation for today's artists from the production to the concepts to the lyricism if not for kanye this shit would not exist./mu/ is pretty fucking ignorant when it comes to recognizing great music. its pretty much "oh, this artist is universally acclaimed? HE SUCKS DICK". fucking hipster faggots.
>>54339926Kanye has at least 3 albums minimum that are better than S80 or TPAB. However, GKMC is debatably better than anything Kanye has ever done. Debatably.
>>54340065>this guy
>>54340086i'm not particularly a fan of anyone i'm a fan of good music>RTJ>goodthey're like kanye, shitty music that you can have a fun time with
>>54339915the question is why did you link a video of a dumb cracker covering this song?
>>54340118influence doesn't matter much when you surpass someone.also>kendrick is not universally acclaimed>implying i don't like kanye>implying i don't just recognize kendrick's superiority
>>54340146objectively is tho. that and money trees
>>54340118To be fair, Kendrick is critically acclaimed too, so I don't think that's what's going on here. >>54340132I can agree with this
>>54340218What's not to like?>great beat>extremely good lyricsI bet you hate this song because Drake is in it.
this whole album sounds like it was produced by nicolay from the foreign exchange Not a bad thing at all but godamn the production and over all glossy feel are so similar
>>54340191>>54340241kendrick only has 1 album (maybe 2 if we count TPAB) that i would call a classic. kanye's entire discography is classic. dont call someone better without a clear run. its like faggots saying that nas is the best when they only consider illmatic, but when you look at the rest of his discography its shit.
>>54340182>crackerconfirmed white person
>>54340118You are simply a delusional little fanboy who needs to look for every little thing that can be attributed to kanye's credit, i'm actually cringing right now knowing that a fucking man could suck a guy's dick this much
>>54340300god damn you're delusional.Kanye is not as good at rapping as Kendrick, this is not debatable.you're basing yourself on what happened after Kanye's rise. You're just dumb if you don't think that Kendrick is inspiring and is going to inspire a shit ton of rappers in the future.Kanye is a good pop artist, with good pop albums. In Hip hop, he's not close to kendrick in any way shape or form.
>>54340118Holy fuck you know nothing about hip hopYou clearly got into it recently By the way faggot it was common who popularised conscious hip hop back in early 2000s
>>54340132Are you retarded, nothing Kanye has done even comes close to TPAB. Jesus christ what's up with all the fucking teens here?
>ctrl + f delusional>4 results
>>54334239>SSLP, MMLP, TES
>>54339980I think its because the bad songs you listed are just really bad compared to anything on his first two albums
>>54340263>great beatBeat quality is kind of hard to argue. To me, it's one of the weakest and most boring beats on the record. >extremely good lyricsNot that it's relevant to the topic, but serious lyrics =/= good lyrics. The lyrics are fine, but most certainly not the best on the album. Kendrick's flow on the song sucks.
>>54340435Nah whats up with you faggotTpab has been out for less than 24 hours and plebs like you believe its possible to form a critical opinion of it after only a couple listensThese fucking white people man please
OBAMA SAY WHAT IT DO
>>54340432>popularised conscious hip hop back in early 2000sIt was already popular beforeWhy do people here keep saying it got popular in the early 2000s
>>54340502hip hop has always been conscious, i don't even know what these fucks are talking about.it was just a lost art on the mainstream scene
>>54340435b8. CD is leagues better than TPAB.
>>54340502You know what i mean asshole yes im aware of conscious hip hop before common but no other got this popular or mainstream recognition >b..but Tupac Implying he was that popular when he was alive
I didn't love how hook oriented GKNC was persoanlly. To Pimp, is like section 80 with way more thematic cohesion
>>54334239>this is was normies believemf doom released 3 albums in 1 year better than any of kendricks mediocre pop shit
>>54340496Yea that's how it worksYou probably need to wait a while and look at reviews to sway your opinions, which explains your shit taste
>>54340496Kek'd hard at the truthnessAlso>assuming people liking kanye are teensEither old as fuck, young as fuck, or livinginabasement as fuck
>>54340568sorry man but you're obviously young/underage and have no idea what you're talking abouti remember when 2pac was shot
>>54340568>Implying he was that popular when he was aliveHe was popular when he was alive you fucking idiotArgument is over because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about
>>54340602Stop just stopmf doom has always been niche and not THAT good anywayIm surprised noone has mentioned EL-P in terms of album streaks You newfags do know he was around before run the jewels right
>>54340328never said kanye contributed to everything you autist.>>54340410of course kanye isnt as good at rapping compared to kendrick but you gotta compare resumes here. kanye clearly wins.>>54340432that album was 2005, after TCD, and kanye produced and wrote a good portion of the album. wow that was easy i swear im talking to preteens
>>54340677>kanye clearly winshe's the better pop artist, yes.

This was the most logical way to follow up a critically acclaimed concept album. Thematically, this is much much richer than GKMC. Gave me chills listening to this, I already smell a classic.
>>54340619How can someone be such a plebSeriously you are literally delusional
>>54340502gangsta rap became popular in early 2000's lrn2history faggot
>>54340554Wow CD is probably the most dull critically acclaimed hip hop albums ever, thinking that it's leagues better than TPAB means you probably use historical context as top priority when judging albums. It doesn't even come close
>>54340716how the fuck is kendrick not pop you retard? bitch dont kill my vibe? backstreet freestyle? m.a.a.d city? is that what pop is you fag?
>>54340670He has 3 solo albums, all are good, but I wouldn't consider any of them to be "greats" the same way I do ATCQ or Outkast's stuff.

>>54340730>Thematically, this is much much richer than GKMChow, every song boiled down to the same "wahhh being black is hard :(((" sentimentGKMC tackled a lot of different social issues that weren't just necessarily ones important to black people so it clearly had the richer and wider reach

>>54341076it is pretty bland tho i have to say.. like it only works in the context of its time, hip hop at that time was pretty timid and boring compared to the real bangers of today

>>54341140Absolutely disgusting. I bet you dislike Illmatic because it sounds dated?>>54341146I meant both critically and publically.
>>54341076it is very much so bland and i'm 22 btw i grew up on kanye's music
>>54341131Did you? It;s literally old-school hip hop beats with Isley brothers vibe over them. >muh spoken word section>muh 12 min track90% of hip hop is pop. The only exceptions I could think off are The Beatnigs and maybe Dalek's Untitled.
>>54341175>I bet you dislike Illmatic because it sounds dated?I can recognize how influential and wellmade it is but it is boring and unengaging to go through now that you have already heard so much better music that improved on the foundation laid down by Illmatic, pretty much the Citizen Kane of rap
>>54338429Not the previous poster but>Section.80>80's Generation AlbumAs opposed to>Good.Kid.Maad.City>Quite Literally, without a doubt, a whole album dedicated to Kendrick as a growing adolescent into maturity.C'mon dude. GKMC is more personal. Maybe you felt Section.80 was more endearing, or something, but personal is likely not the proper word. Just saying.
>>54341182Your age isnt an argument, I'm 24 and I can speak about it too.>>54341140Well, it's not exactly a banger but that doesn't make it bad or even dated. I love R&B (yes, even what you would call radio crap) though so that might be why is still love it.

>>54341403>How can you not realise how wrong you arethese are opinions dumbass, and i have listened to enough music to come back to kanye and realize he's fucking dull
>>54339838I can't even make a proper response to this one.gawd dayum 11/10
>>54340826I got a lot more of a "I hate choosing between the shallow life of rich/famous and the harsh life of ghetto black" vibe throughout like this whole album. Kendrick is stuck between two totally opposite worlds and truthfully they are both abhorrent places to reside in (to him).
>>54334009 If you aren't black or at least close to black, TPAB will go right over your head.
>>54334009>You will never hear the full FlyLo version of pimping a butterfly
