What's so great about this again? What is it supposed to be? It's not even progressive enough musically or experimental as far as hip-hop is concerned, so what he is trying to that makes people drop they jaws?

>> No.54317079

its not supposed to be experimental its just a dope fucking album

"dope" as in only "dopey" people can enjoy it?

the production is bitchin' and kanye's lyrics aren't too bad. it's something like watch the throne where it doesn't have to be progressive. it just gotta be a banger.

Of course a cuck like you won't get it, OP.

You learn to appreciate it more if you read up on Kanye's life before the album was recorded (bush incident, taylor incident, stress, etc.)

>jaw dropping albums have to be experimental

It's one of the most perfectly crafted pop hip hop albums of all time, why is that not enough of an achievement

Because it's not very hard to beat shit.

Okay, what post-2010 pop hip hop releases have topped it?

>> No.54317671

None, that's my point.
Pop hip hop is shit so it can't be very hard to beat.
As in Kanye has no competition seeing as he is the only faggot that put work into making a pop hip hop album that isn't shit.

I can't enjoy pop hip hop or pop rock it's just too boring.
Contemporary folk is pretty nice though and experimental rock/ hip hop.

I think Ice Cube's albums are a better achievement. What, because Ye puts some progression in his hip-hop (house music)? I listen to enough electronic dance music where it's not even a thing. His lyrics and themes are good at times, but it's not GOAT by a long stretch.

The best 'hip-hop' album of the 2000s musically is Flockaveli.

Anybody even care to disagree?

It's extravagance. It's sonic excess, a lavish production that the likes of Hip Hop hasn't really seen since Outkast's days.

And we love this album because that type of material should always be praised, when an artist as high up as he in the commercial foodchain can also create something as genuine and passion-fueled as MBDTF.

kanye confirmed for the most overrated musician of our lifetime

without a fucking doubt

>found one trait of house music, likely in one song
>all he's doing is house music

He's all over the place with genre bending, incorporating several different influences into a sloppy mess of over production.

Ice Cube's albums are good, but nothing on the level of production of Kanye's shit.

More like Kanye praised for what he stands for, and for actually giving a shit about making his music interesting when he could've sold out multiple times, and /mu/ cynics and fedora tippers alike can't separate that because they never empathize with artists outside of their favorite bands.

Contemporary Folk is equally as shit.

Kanye has more in tune with the folk mentality than half of the idiot pawns in the "indie" scene, aka the last fart in the music industry's bloated corpse.

I live in Nashville, so I probably have more rights to say this than most.
I'm over-encumbered by shit folk.

Kanye is being hacked by cynical contrarians much like Dylan was back in the 60's.

Time will forget your minor complaints, he's going down as a music legend whether you like it or not.

Like all people, better to appreciate him for what he does right than to shit on him because he's not like the other stuff around that won't even get touched by your kids' generation anyways.

I'd be willing to argue that his solo albums in the 90s with their sampling and militant lyrics are more musically important than Ye's progressive music in the 2000s. Trap music takes more after Cube's music than Ye's progression. Ye introduced autotune and that's only a matter of production.

This is not an argument for why he's good. This is you saying he will be popular in the future.

Kanye is Bowie-tier.

You don't seem to understand that Dylan is legendary. Kanye's lyrics aren't even close to Dylan and nobody thinks they are. Maybe you're European or something, but it's obvious to anybody who is familiar with African American slang that Ye is not a GOAT lyricist even by rap standards
