>pleb
what is this 2013?

Those are all fine jazz albums but the impression you give off by listing them as favorites is that you've probably heard less than 50 jazz albums since most of those are among the first 20 or so that people hear.

I dunno listen to 2000s progressive jazz
I like Luis Perdomo, Danny Grissette, and Robert Mitchell.
Tigran Hamasyan released a new album that's supposed to be good. Otherwise check out any of the above + maybe non-pianists like Lionel Loueke and Ambrose Akinkmusire

more like 'free for all' - art blakey? tried 'moanin' and 'indestructible' and i haven't found anything that matched the intensity and speed of that record. mindblowing, savage, visceral, barbaric, chaotic, and raw drums

also just heard pharoah sanders' 'karma' for the first time. honestly thought it was great, but underwhelming. the kumbaya lyrics with the monotony and slowness made me feel like the record was overstaying its' welcome. any thoughts on this?

any other hip hop AND jazz fans here? fave releases?

I mean, they're also generally the best jazz albums, so it's reasonable to list them as favorites.

That album is all about repetition and fostering tension through it--it all pays off in big moments. It's spiritual jazz. I find his lyrics and vocalizations really entrancing. You may just not dig it, which is totally fine

I mean what are you expecting with a 30 minute long opener. Buildup implied. It's a really great album and a definite grower slash baked out of your minder.

For some reason pic related really appeals to the side of me that loved hip hop. Maybe it's the social consciousness? Could be just that he looks like Chris Dave on this.

This is what the death of jazz sounds like.
