should i make music? i want to make music... it's a lot of money to buy equipment.. i want to make all the music, the drum music and the guitar music (have some of that stuff) and the computer music and the crazy experimental wooweewoo woah music, i have so many ideas in my head all of the time but i don't have the equipment. is it worth it?

>> No.54244755

>>54244719

Probably not. Then when you opined about music you'd not have the fallback of being a clueless dipshit

>> No.54244771

If you want to do it then do it. it'll do you good.

Just do it. As long as you have fun.

This.
You'd probably be wise to buy a MIDI controller and a DC Unit to record real instruments though.

>> No.54244810

just buy some cheap microphones, leave them recording in public places, compile into a "sounds of the city" tape, and sell to a local hipster label

>> No.54244972

>>54244810
you can make decent money selling stock audio, for other people to use as fake background noise in film and music and shit. Record the great /out/doors with birds singing and stuff, record a crowded DMV waiting room, record the sounds of traffic at 5P.M. on the busiest street.

>>54244719
I recorded and released my first song yesterday. I'm really self-concious and don't want people that I know to hear my music, so I put it on youtube and soundcloud under a pseudonym.

I know exactly how you feel, though. I haven't spent a lot of money on my setup. I just have a guitar that my sister gave me years ago, use my phone to record, and I'm gonna do drums and stuff via software on my computer.

I figure if I get good and take off at it, I'll get more equipment and start releasing things under my real name.

Do it.
Just don't go in with some grand idea of what you're going to make or you'll only disappoint yourself. Do lots of experimenting.

My other idea was, well, you know how you drum with your hands/fingers on stuff throughout the day? My idea is to record myself doing that, and mix it with the original track

By reading the full question this is obviously a joke.

But I'll answer anyway.

Making music is something that you should do purely for fun and for yourself. Don't expect anything to come from it and you're set. Also if you aren't sure, go and get something cheap or free to start with and then upgrade after 3+ months. I can't tell you the amount of people I know who pick up an instrument/program and then drop it after getting bored within a few weeks.

Music is expensive if you're gonna get serious too, but don't think about that for now, just think about it like a hobby.

Wish you luck.

>> No.54245314

why would you say it's obviously a joke? also i've been playing guitar for 9 years but only for myself, it's therapy almost. I have like 4 guitars and a few amps i used to play drums and i'm trying to learn keyboard, it's overwhelming sometimes. very rewarding though

>> No.54245325

>the crazy experimental wooweewoo woah music

I do it as therapy and a hobby as well, it can be rewarding, but only if you actually have a passion for it. Forcing yourself to make music if it's not your thing isn't rewarding.

>> No.54245413

ur never gonna be a musician if you dont do it

programmed drums and basslines are almost always fucking boring. Why wouldn't you want a rhythm section that can naturally improvise and create more dynamic music?

I mean, there's always a time and a place for fully electronic sounds, but the idea that we're perfectly fine getting rid of half of what made that last 50 years of popular music great is stupid

>> No.54245503

Start up cost for any hobby can be intimidating buddy, but as long as your not buying shit willy nilly its not as bad as it seems.

and better yet, find people to work with, collaborate/make music with (ie splitting costs)

music is one our most primal social tools :)
