So, I shang an improvised shong while playing a chord progression on my guitar.
Reminds me of when I was first learning how to play guitar (though my past that early is a bit nebulous to me, maybe it's a mental block or something).

Shanging improvised shongs while playing guitar chords isn't that hard for me, I remember that now.
It was easy for the picking pattern to devolve into something familiar and basic, though.

Being an america-contemporary-folk solo acoustic guitar instrumentalist as well as a Japanese-contemporary-folk solo acoustic guitar instrumentalist, I'm starting to develop a taste for folk music more now.

No it's not.

When I started dating my missus, she had cheapy 80$ guitar laying around, with an Amp, and an instructional DVD

So I started fucking with it, I'd come to realize after about a week or so, of having problems tuning it that her sister had strung 3 of the 5-6 cords with violin strings.

Said fuck it for awhile, and before I could get proper guitar strings for it, do some research etc. Her brother then turned around and pawned it off, because he's a fucking retard.

Flash forward years ahead, and I've some money laying around. And was hoping I could get a used guitar from a local store for sub 175USD

And what's wrong with being a black guy and liking guitars?

I grew up on shit like FAKK Heavy Metal animated movies, my mother was white, and I got into ACDC, Black Sabbath, from here.

If your saying an amp and a guitar for $165 then they're either old and busted or Chinese ripoff garbage

Honestly just buy a low-end Dean/Ibanez/Jackson and a 15w practice amp, it'll probably ring around $150 maybe more for a lefty guitar but not too too much more

It's not like a PC if that's what your wondering.
You basically have to craft the wood so you can fit the electronics and shit in and then do 10000000 wire installs, pickup installs, bridge, screwdrive tuning keys in and take precise measurements of EVERYTHING and there's your guitar.

If you want a custom go to a luthier and check the rates otherwise stick to prebuilts if your budget is low.

Yeah modern laptops are definitely powerful enough. I'm not sure that it would handle writing 24 tracks of 24bit 96kHz audio to the hard drive, but I can run well over 12-15 instances of resource-intensive synths (Omnisphere, Serum) without any problems, and I rarely find myself needing to record more than 2 channels at a time.

Guys, I need advice choosing a new electric guitar.

I am usually a bassist, but I have been playing much more guitar in my band, and the other guitarist, who plays a Less Paul, and I have been doing some Stones-style dual lead/rhythm weaving in and out where it isn't clear what is what, though overall he is more of a lead guitarist. I've been playing a Fender Stratocaster with a humbucker, but I can only really stand to play it when strings have been on for too long and it loses its characteristic "quack". Also, I want a shorter scale instrument, such as an SG or a Mustang Pawn Shop Special, but most SGs have terrible necks, and Mustang Pawn Shop Specials aren't in stores anymore as they have been discontinued. I have played occasional SGs that have been lovely, but most are terrible. The few lovely ones have been quite lovely, however. I'm drawn to that Mustang, but I wouldn't want to buy one and hate it, after not having played one in so long. Any thoughts on whether to get a Japanese one with truss rod adjustment in neck heel, or Mexican with adjustment at headstock? Pic related.

We primarily do stuff with lots of reverb through tube amps.

One of the earliest things that you should get is a pair of good monitors. I would definitely save up a bit of extra money to get 8 inch cones and a pair of stands for them (they're way too close to my head right now cause my desk isn't deep enough, stands make a big difference). Without properly hearing the output of your DAW you can't really do anything accurately. I think after that investing in a high quality interface is really important. EVERYTHING that comes in and out of your computer will go through the analog->digital and digital->analog converters so it's best to invest into something pretty good. The interface is likely to also come with mic preamps which are super important. After that (depending on what kind of stuff you're recording), I'd get some good microphones, and try to get a balanced variety of them (small and large diaphragm condensers, dynamics).

What you choose to get is very dependant on what you're planning on doing. I don't ever really record more than 2 channels at a time so I invested into an interface with only 2 high quality inputs. If you intend on doing outboard analog processing then you'd need at least 4 outputs.

But in any case. I think monitors were by far the most important purchase I've ever made.

Here's a better pic of the compressor cause why not.

Not that guy but you might want to look into a standalone digital recorder as a start. They make life very easy in terms of high quality input and basic mixing. You can never have a good enough microphone and pop shields a must.

Those things suck for editing and producing your work but you can just export raw to your computer.

I continued jogging in sheer terror. I kept running, not looking back. Eventually exhausted, I stopped, but immediately turned back and put my arms above my head to make me seem bigger, it was gone. I guess I was lucky because I had a pretty good head start, it was maybe 30-50ft away maybe.
I was so sore the next day, I barely walked.

The reason I'm considering a left handed guitar is because I hear playing with a non-dominant hand could fuck with your progress.

My problem lies in the fact that somewhere in my life, fate decided to attempt to turn my right arm into a fucking flash sacrifice, I was mauled by a dog when I was three, it tried to tear my damned arm off. And then a couple years later I broke it in 4 places.

Certain grips with my right hand cause me pain, so I'm worried about being able to work the frets with a Lefty Guitar.

Strings are cheaps as balls, what the fuck.
and I don't fucking know which E you mean because "1st string" refers to high E then you say the lowest one, which refers to the 6th.

>1. A person playing chords like maj7 / 7 / 6 hitting all the notes except the 5?
You seem to be asking for opinions like doing this might be seen as incorrect in some way. This is totally fine. In basic theory, the 5th of the chord is always the first note to be jettisoned because it has almost no effect on the character of the chord whatsoever. In fact a lot of more seasoned players also drop the root of the chord and leave that to the bass, allowing for more color tones or just less note clutter.

>>54251375
Again, depending on the style of music you're playing, leaving out the low E (I assume that's the string you're referring to) can be pretty common. The reason being the low E string gets pretty close to the bass frequencies and can mud up your sound if you aren't careful. For example, I'm pretty sure Keith Richards does away with the low E altogether when he plays.

>>54259689

Yes I used to use the Axe-Fx as my computer's i/o just through USB. It sounded fantastic, and by setting the Axe-Fx's input as USB, I could run digital->analog->digital loops for processing with outboard equipment. It was annoying though because the Axe-Fx only runs at 48kHz, and so I had no flexibility in terms of sample rate, and when the Axe-Fx's input is set to USB, ANYTHING coming out of the computer goes through the Axe-Fx's digital signal path, which means that I couldn't prototype the sound of any processing in context of the mix, I always had to solo whatever it was that I wanted to process.

It's not because I wasn't satisfied with it, but it wasn't really the piece of gear that benefited my workflow at this point in my life. I work a lot more with synths than I do with guitars, and I rarely found myself processing things like synths with it. I have an Apollo Twin interface and it's much more convenient for what I do, and it has mic preamps. I don't particularly miss it, and still have ~$900 left over for me to travel with this summer.

But flak jackets are called flak jackets because they were designed to protect against flak and other shrapnel/debris, not because they were bulletproof. In fact, using the term 'flak jacket' to describe 'bulletproof' armor is an incorrect colloquialism, much like using the term 'clip' to refer to magazines. Why would he need a pick when he just abuses harmonics?

That said, just watched the video to see what he was talking about. I think I kinda get what he's saying. A bigger pick is more comfortable and a bigger pick means a bigger bevel which is nice to play with. I noticed this with a V-Pick I tried. Because it was 2.75 mm or so thick, it had a nice huge bevel on it which made the pick glide across the strings and especially made alternate picking really nice. Didn't care for the tone though, so back to my Jazz III max grip picks.

Also, Rob Scallon sounds like my cousin and it's unsettling.
