Name a better album, I dare ya.Protip: You can't.
Legitimately though, this is a perfectly acceptable choice for Greatest Album of All Time.
The wall
your dad must be so proud of you
Nas- Illmatic
Not even the 3rd best floyd album
>>54229090no
>>54229060>not WYWH or AnimalsPleb
>>54229128Why isn't it?
I prefer their earlier albums.
>>54229167It's progressive rock without being progressive, it gets extremely cheesy at times and even Pink Floyd has at least 4 better albums
>>54229193but preferring DSotM is the fedora thing to do. get your memes in check.
>>54229214>It's progressive rock without being progressiveThat's not a negative.>it gets extremely cheesy at times What times?>and even Pink Floyd has at least 4 better albumsWhich albums?
Pink Floyd - A Saucerful of Secrets
>>54229239the moaning nigger in great gig in the sky. ruins the album for me
>>54229284>the moaning niggerAh, I don't have to take you seriously now.
>>54229130this
>>54229214>It's progressive rock without being progressive,Any Colour You Like is the most progressive song to exist, like it or not>>54229284Clare Torry is white, dipshit
>>54229307>sjws Wish You Were Here is better nigger
>>54229332Evidently you are 16, since you don't know what a SJW is.
>>54229284>shitting on the only good song on the albumwow ebic
>>54229060Trout Mask ReplicaEat shit anon
>>54229239>That's not a negativeI don't see how it's not but ok I can leave it at that>What times?the screaming in the great gig in the skyfucking moneythat sax in us and them, just stopeclipse is really really cheesy>Which albums?Piper, Saucer, Animals, Meddle, AHM>>54229319>Any Colour You Like is the most progressive song to existconfirmed for not having listened to any other album in Pink Floyd's discography
>>54229368>Cageian/Stockhausenian gimmick album>GOAThaha oh man
>>54229361>great gig>only good song on the albumcan people's taste really be this bad
>>54229060every pink floyd album that preceded it was betterhere's a superior album from 1973 though
>>54229368What two adjectives would you use to describe the album?
>>54229352>accusing me of being underage nice argument
>>54229396tago mago is better and future days is not better than dark side>>54229389>confirmed for not having listened to any other album in Pink Floyd's discographyno, I have, and they're one of my favorite bands.
>>54229060To Be Kind-SwansEasy
>>54229307>le back to /pol/ meme>>54229319>Clare Torry is white, dipshitDoesn't change the fact that she sings like a nigger. :^)>Any Colour You Like is the most progressive song to existListen to Animals>>54229361Us and Them is the only decent song on this shit LP.
>>54229393confirmed never listened to post-african karlheinz or ol' johny boy
>>54229352>calling someone a sjwHaha who's really the 16 year old?
>>54229368strictly personal is better>>54229442>Listen to AnimalsLeftover WYWH with a shitty animal farm theme tacked on last minute, no thanks>Us and Them is the only decent song on this shit LP.pff bwhahaha
>>54229395It's objectively true. The only other good moments on DSOTM are the instrumental tracks like On the Run and Any Colour You Like.
>>54229471the sjw
>>54229435>synth noodling and guitar wankery for 3 and a half minutes>the most progressive song to existexplain>>54229471he didn't call anyone a sjw, reading comprehension lets go>>54229481>Animals>Leftover WYWHbut anon WYWH is literally DSotM-tier
>>54229496I resoect you appreciating the instrumentals more than the overt singles, but the singles themselves are quite amazing, and btw you forgot breathe
>>54229060The fans aren't what makes the album mediocre. The fans just make it more annoying than all the other mediocre rock albums I've listened to and forgotten about.I'll grant you that the production is super polished (if you go in for that clean slick sound, which some people do), but that's what happens when you throw money and studio engineers at any album. And I'll grant that some of the tracks have pretty good harmonies. Not Lennon/McCartney or Steely Dan tier, but noticeably better than your typical rock band. The problem is that they couldn't write vocal melodies to save themselves, possibly because of Waters's text-centric songwriting outlook, so you these promising song-skeletons end up saddled with a musically listless vocal line that often just repeats the same rhythmically monotonous phrase while hanging around on chord tones. This wouldn't be crippling except that most of the album consists of what are essentially pop songs. I like pop, but not when it's written so poorly. Pink Floyd only redeem themselves on DSOTM when they shut up and play their instruments. And even then, the Flaming Lips' cover was still a better album.
this is way more psychedelic than dark side of the moonit is also way more personal than dark side of the moonit is also much more musically interesting than dark side of the moonit also came out in 1973 like dark side of the moon
>>54229512>WYWH is literally DSotM-tierThat's where you are wrong, show me a song on DSotM like Shine on You Crazy Diamond or Welcome to The Machine
>>54229512>but anon WYWH is literally DSotM-tierNope, listen to the household project track, it's clear they were fresh out of ideas after dark side, and made a shitty half tribute half prog album as the result>synth noodling and guitar wankery for 3 and a half minutesnice buzzwords, I'll wait til I can actually respond to a real criticism
>>54229546yet it doesnt have any colour on it, so it's shit
>>54229481>Leftover WYWHI don't think you've ever listened to the album.
ITT: CONTRARIANS
Dark side is a bullshit album. Ive listened to different artists of similar and still don't understand the fascination behind this album. I've tried to listen to it sober and high and still had to just turn it off
>>54229389>the screaming in the great gig in the skyPersonally don't find it cheesy. Just very emotional and evocative of gospel music. In the setting of heaven this makes sense.>fucking moneyAlways thought of it as a curtain-opener for the second half of the album.>that sax in us and them, just stopI can see why you object but I enjoy its minimal treatment.>eclipse is really really cheesyI might relisten to it soon.>Piper, Saucer, Animals, Meddle, AHMif I were to argue all of these we'd be here all night so I'll let it rest
>>54229584>nice buzzwords, I'll wait til I can actually respond to a real criticismIt's basically easy-listening compared to other progressive music. It's starts out with uninteresting synth sounds and carries on the second half with a less than engaging guitar solo, I don't see what is so progressive about it. The fact that it doesn't have lyrics and the track is so short doesn't help it.It's a good song I'll give it that but most progressive song of all time? Fuck off.
>>54229575On the Run > Welcome to the MachineMoney > Have a CigarTime > Wish You Were Here
>>54229546If we're doing thisPic related is basically DSOTM done better and two years earlier
>>54229703please kill yourself
>>54229060Time has always been my favorite song on this album why us everyone hatin'
>>54229703>>54229736
>>54229703>these are the people you try to discuss music with
there was some dude on my campus that always wears a bob marley jacket, and dark side of the moon t-shirt, and a fedora. he's fat, and a literal neckbeard.everytime i see him he's got 4 girls surrounding him, laughing at his jokes, etc.>tfw he's probably getting tons of pussy and you haven't had a gf in years
>>54229677>Just very emotional and evocative of gospel music. In the setting of heaven this makes sense. In concept it's a great track but the screaming gets grating after the second or so listening>Always thought of it as a curtain-opener for the second half of the album. That doesn't really make sense. Money is way more fast paced and rocky than anything on the album and especially the second half is more toned down and mellow>I can see why you object but I enjoy its minimal treatment. In my opinion it does nothing to the track, instead it just seems tacked on as if they wanted more "diversity" and "progression">>54229703this wasnt me btw
>>54229689Uninteresting? Pff haha, oh yeah because layered synths, minimoogs, VS3 to simulate the color spectrum and human free will and choice isn't complex or progressiveLess than engaging guitar solo? Because the way it ping pongs through stereo with the funky uptempo rhythm juxstopositioned is so not engagingIt doesn't need lyrics, the scat signing more than expresses its meaning like great gig only more overtly>>54229639It was slapped together to combat the rise in punk music, it's try hard as fuck I hate it
>>54229704>no any colour
>>54229703The first one is actually right
>>54229833just like dsotm
>>54229913Dark Side was conceived since 1970 to 1972 produced and mixed in 72 and released in 73 AFTER they toured in 72... Punk music came later
>>54229944youre focusing on the wrong thing
>>54229859It's All in the Mind > Any Colour You Like
>>54229060done
>>54229998Dark Side is the result of all of the bands outings and experience since syd Barrett left, it's not try hard at all it's extremely genuine, not like the cash grab that is WYWH
>>54230025aphex twin if fucking garbage
>>54229130Neither of those should be rated higher than 7/10 and 6/10 respectively
>punk music came after 1973>mfw
>>54230019No fucking way... Does that track feature a shit load of synths moogs and guitar pedals? Didn't think so, bitch
>>54230058What I meant was Animals was in opposition to its popularity in the mid 70s, when kids were fed up with 15 min long prog tracks
Done.
>>54230059>featuring a shit load of synths moogs and guitar pedals is necessary and sufficient for a great songInteresting theory. What are you basing it on?
>>54230174the fact that it doesn't have any. plus the uni vibe has a much more fascinating sound than whatever nektor was using for its guitar distortions
Us and Them is the best Prog Rock song ever made.
>>54229060Wish you were here
>>54229060
>>54231961close, but it's any colour you like, actually
>>54231961it's a good pop songthe greatest prog rock song ever is in fact cygnus vismund cygnus by the mars volta
>>54229113yup. although I wouldn't compare them to each other. One of them greatly influenced hip hop, the other rock
>>54229060666 aphrodite child
>>54232282>Us and Them>pop song>Extended intro fading in from previous song>No hook>Dark themes>Ends suddenly, immediately transitioning into next songWere you really drunk at the time of this post?
Sorry not sorry.
You know its true
>>54229389>Piper, Saucer, Animals, Meddle, AHMall had better songs, but none as consistent>the screaming in the great gig in the sky>fucking money>that sax in us and them, just stop>eclipse is really really cheesyNeither me nor anybody I know has ever found any of this to be cheesy or cringed at it or even so much as flinched. I don't know how to tell u this, but I think u might just be pretentious anon
