>Do you believe that story?
>Kai: Well I do believe a part of it. I do believe that there is a strong force sometimes behind things. People that they have a lot influence and power and they really dominate things. So secret society’s. The Illuminati really existed it was there. It is proven. They come from the templars and free Masons. It is a society.

Funeral Doom is to Stoner Doom what darkwave is to new age synthwave. it's got that kvlt goth aesthetic, it's practically honorary black metal except instead of being shrill and frantic it's heavy and slow as fuck. Also it has them death metal growls.

Try Ahab (their first two albums), then Evoken, then Asunder, then Monolithe, then NǽnocÿbbŒrg VbërrHolökäävsT, but by this point it will pretty much have evolved into Drone.

For me Alice in Chains is like exactly on the border of metal and hard rock. Definitely the most metal of the big grunge acts of the 90s, with some of Soundgarden's stuff coming close.

Both of these two musicians happen to also be scientists. In 2006, they met each other at an Antarctic Research Station while studying carnivorous Antarctic predators. The two soon realized that they had very similar musical tastes and were both experienced bass players. As the two became closer friends, they soon found that they also shared similar interests in drone and avant-garde metal, as well as discovered that they were both in possession of a bass and bass amp.

>A plan was soon hatched between the two to steal one of the portable generators as well as some extra fuel and extra food from the research station, load it all onto a dog sled, and venture to the exact South Pole, in the cold and bleak heart of the Antarctic continent. It was at this precise location that NǽnoĉÿbbŒrğ VbëřřĦōlökäävsŦ would record their first album, The Ultimate Fate of the Universe, using their basses, amps, and a laptop.

What the fuck

WHY THE FUCK HASN'T THERE BEEN A SINGLE HONEST ATTEMPT AT FUSING FUNERAL DOOM AND BLACK METAL?

I mean fuck, they're perfectly complementary genres, it's like Funeral Doom is the bass line and Black Metal is the lead guitar, just throw them together and it's bound to sound incredible.

Instead we just got some slow kinda heavy BM and some funeral doom that has a few BM vocal parts.

Put on some blast beats and shrill-ass tremolo guitar lines over them crushing funeral riffs and echoing drums.

Do people really get into metal?

I don't understand how you can get into something which is completely amusical. The screaming is just offsetting. I mean I could understand it as like an adrenaline thing, like it gets you pumped up, but in that case it's no longer music in the natural sense of the term.

Even stuff like Death Grips compromises its abrasion with good technical lyricism. But in metal you can't even understand the vocals (if you're not autistic), so even if the lyrics are decent, even though they aren't, there's no room for musicality.

So, metalheads, are you ready to accept the objective reality that metal is not music?

ooooh boy are you lucky I'm here.

industrial death metal:
start with Fear Factory (their first two albums are the best) and then Sterilizer, it's very similar but without vocals and completely merciless.

Also give the Count Nosferatu Kommando a try, their album Ultraviolence über Alles is edgy as fuck, incredibly angry and catchy at the same time. It's got pounding techno beats, a bombastic martial flavor and some of the most kickass riffs in the genre. It even has black metal tendencies.

then you can listen to the band they became: the Cosa Nostra Klub, it's softer, more glam, but still pretty cool, they use a lot of symphonic samples. Kinda like Deathstars if Deathstars actually had balls.

In a similar martial-symphonic vein, Samael is a must, very uplifting and grandiose.

Nexus Inferis does some pretty cool industrial death metal with a shitton of effects and sci-fi themes.

Listen to Ministry, obviously, it's thrash-industrial (not their first two albums)

Scorngrain is pretty cool cyberthrash.

Listen to some industrial black metal, I'm working on a rec chart but here are some of the best: Dodheimsgard, Thorns, Blacklodge, Spektr, Axis of Perdition, La Division Mentale, NKVD, Neo Inferno 262, Havoc Unit, Iperyt, Control Human Delete.

Voivod made an album with industrial influences that's pretty good: Negatron

If you want EBM-inspired stuff in the vein of Rammstein listen to Herzparasit, Panzertank and Oomph, also Ruoska.

You can also try Cyber Metal, it's kinda melodic, gothic-ish melodeath-meloblack industrial metal with heavy cyberpunk themes. Illidiance, Sybreed, Herrschaft and Neurotech are big names in that subgenre

Oh yeah if you want some electro metal you can listen to Helltrash and Combichrist's latest devil may cry soundtrack.

Seconding Rituals (they only put out one self-titled record before they broke up, 2012 I think, but its a masterpiece), and Fall of Efrafa.

Also, if you can handle atmosludge heading into prog metal territory, check out Intronaut. Valley of Smoke and the new one, Habitual Levitations, are both really good.

If you liked ISIS, check out Aaron Turner's new band Sumac. Sounds a lot like early ISIS, to be honest, so it was kinda disappointing if you were hoping for something new, but otherwise its a solid record.

I think I know why I can't get into Black and Death.
They're white people music and I'm not white.
I simply can't relate to those genres because they convey emotions only present in a white person's mind.

Whereas doom, which I like, is closer to rock music's negroid nature.
Discuss.

Kind of related though, are there any African metal bands? Not like some South African white crackers making typical metal, but actual black African negros incorporating traditional African music into metal. Something analogous to European folk metal, I guess.

i dunno, there's a lot more, those are the 'biggest name' bands. there's still a lot of places still dealing with christian missionary mindset that don't even start with rock music let alone metal. in the caribbean i know about orishna shakpana, but that's about it.

there's a lot of untapped lyrical inspiration if you look into all the different creation myths and religions of Africa. I thought about it myself, but I don't have the time or effort to record anything right now.

Any love for Carach Angren here?

Fucking loved everything up to their last album (it was really only OK) so I was a little afraid of listening to their newest album (came out a couple weeks ago)

oh man were my fears baseless. this album is metal AOTY material so far, the symphonics are great, the production is great, the riffage is great, the vocals are great, the lyrics are eh but whatever,

all in all a great listening!
if you haven't listened to their 2010 album (which is what this album reminds me of the most) then do that because Death Came Through A Phantom Ship really is one of the best symphonic black metal albums I've ever heard.
