Who won?

>> No.54145063

The Velvet Underground

neither

311, with their hit single "Down"

Pet Sounds won.

But in the long run - the Beatles.

That's not the game

Imagine if TVU&N got released when it was supposed to, though. And if it was actually marketed. What if record stores and radio stations actually had the balls for it? I bet nobody would give a shit about the Beatles and the punk movement would come a lot sooner

>> No.54145125

Haha, as if it's even close.

But what if SMiLE came out

Then the Beach Boys would just have to have something to compete with Abbey Road

Also, it's not really Beatles vs. Beach Boys, its George Martin, Lennon-McCartney, and George Harrison, all against Brian Wilson. The Beatles helped each other get better for the most part, but the Beach Boys were only dragging Brian down

No, dude. They played Pet Sounds...

lol, that you're abbreviating the names of the two most famous people in the band you're trying to beat.
>being this embarrassed that you lost 40 years ago.
>this isn't even a conversation

And also not mentioning the other extremely popular member of the band you're trying to beat, Ringo Starr

Thankfully I came to 4chan today to brag on the Beatles, but got to pwn you on your own thread instead.

Lennon-McCartney as in the songwriting partnership. Also, 50 years

>>54145190
He had to compete with Starr in the same way the Beatles had to compete with the all the Beach Boys' session musicians

They were both very good bands 50 years ago. The Beatles were the ones who were still very famous 40 years ago.

Who had to compete? This argument made no sense.

You're not doing yourself any favors trying to continue this.

Brian Wilson. The "compete" is just from "trying to beat" from that other post you(?) made. As in, Beach Boys vs. Beatles, you know. The musical rivalry. If you read the posts again with that context, I think it will make sense to you

>>54145307
The Beatles were passe by 1975 and would be until Lennon's death. Neither were popular at the time, although the Beatles definitely stayed popular longer, because none of their albums were unfinished and never released and they didn't go insane

Still, I don't see what your point is, I don't think any of this matters I think the music itself is more important

>>54145329
Actually that isn't true
