So according to the most educated man in music criticism history, and someone who's listened to more music than the entirety of /mu/ combined, these are the top 4 albums of all times.

Eventually I came to love VU&N and especially Rock Bottom. I also really like TMR, but I think Safe As Milk is better. As for Faust s/t, I think it's an okay album, but not anywhere near my top 4. I think Scaruffi values poetic verse and symbolic arrangement of passages more than I do, and that's why he loves Faust s/t and TMR.
I don't buy a lot of his ratings, and he can definitely be pretentious as fuck, but he's at least a hell of a lot better than p4k, fantano or especially christgau. Plus the dude has been to like 140 different countries, curated intellectual events at acclaimed universities, and listened to tens of thousands of albums in a critical mindset, So I find it hard not to value his opinion. |
