Is this the first post-ironic album ever recorded? Or was Reed really trying to sound radio-friendly?

>> No.54053968

I've always thought Who Loves The Sun is a Beatles spoof

>> No.54053988

"Post-ironic" and "doing it for radio" essentially denote the same thing, in this context. The word you're looking for is "ironic", you don't need to use the "post" prefix to sound cool.

Record company forcing Lou Reed and friends to make an album "loaded with hits" which is why he left the band afterwards

Trout Mask Replica was the first meme album.

It sounds more like some generic one-hit wonder bubblegum band like The Turtles or something.

i really like TVU's other albums. should i never listen to this album in my life?

>> No.54054106

Yes, I agree that the final album would sound the same. However, the thing is if this album was conceived from the beginning to appeal the masses, or was a mockery that ended having a musical identity by itself

company forced him to do shit: he wrote pop tunes of his own volition

Give it a try. It's not like the first two (this is basically a Reed solo), but still good. The one you should avoid is Squeeze.

this, fuck Squeeze

Even squeeze isn't bad, it's just not the same band.

Have you listened to/enjoy Transformer? If so, definitely check it out.

All the VU stuff is legend, but I constantly waffle between Loaded and the s/t being my favorite.

Reed kinda didnt care about how the music sounded as long as he could write it. He seemed to be the kind of dude who just wanted to write poetry and place it over rock and roll.

that is my opionion too, let me guess you also prefer TVU&N to White Light/White Heat

blink-182 has better instrumentation and song structure.
Fact.

>> No.54057164

Their sound barely changed going into this album. TVU was always fairly radio-friendly, excluding certain songs. What the fuck is wrong with you idiots?

Also,
Loaded = TVU&N > S/T > WL/WH

>> No.54057316

I think it's a bit tongue and cheek. I mean a pop song about questioning the importance of the sun, that's some pretty awesome material.
I don't know why Loaded isn't as highly regarded as their other stuff, it's my favorite next to White Light / White Heat. Cool it Down forces me to walk like a retard, New Age is beautifully structured, the message it conveys rings even truer today. Head Held High is great, I Found a Reason is stunning in its production and vocal delivery, Train Round the Bend is my favorite, that weird staccato guitar is sweet, i wanna use it for one of my songs. And then Sweet Nuthin, a great way to end this album, and the band's career. Squeeze never happened.
